S. Korea agrees to talks on possible volcano in N. Korea

SEOUL, March 22 -- South Korea said it agreed Tuesday to hold talks with North Korea on a potential volcano on the communist state's border with China, proposing a meeting of experts next week amid growing speculation the sides are seeking ways to re-establish contact.

The proposal, made by the head of South Korea's national weather agency and delivered through the liaison officials of the countries, calls for a meeting next Tuesday in the South Korean border city of Munsan, a Unification Ministry official told reporters.

Earlier this month, North Korea had proposed talks with South Korea amid growing worries of a potential eruption at Mount Paekdu.

The mountain, the highest on the Korean Peninsula, last erupted in 1903, but experts have warned that it may still have an active core, citing topographical signs and satellite images.

3. Makes sense.
Think how close to war various inbound meteors have brought Cold War opponents
then think about the likely reaction to massive explosions in the distance
followed by an apparent bombardment.

6. Wow! Mt Paektu is the premier revolutionary site in North Korea.
It's the site of the "secret camp" of Kim Il Sung and the purported birthplace of Kim Il Jong.

7. At first I thought, The Onion. But troubles make for strange bedfellows.
What interesting times we live in, alliances broken and made in days. Ouf of necessities, working together. Overseas, anyway. Good luck to the entire Asian side of the Pacific. They've been catching hell all this year.

8. Don't worry, the North has it covered
if it erupts that's because American/South Korean agents are trying to attack the peace-loving people of Real Korea. And they will defend themselves by invading.

If it doesn't that's because Kim Jong Il used his holy connections to force it back, he's a hero and they will celebrate his obvious divinity by unifying the country and driving out the imperialist heretics from America.

9. You can't negotiate with volcanoes, they demand appeasement!
Send in the virgins, it's the only way to be sure.

11. Kind of makes you wonder:
What's the appeal to waiting?

Not only do you not get to have sex but also people always want to throw you into a volcano, or cut our your heart, or some such nonsense.
