Gaddafi sitting on 143 tonnes of gold in Libya: report
Source: SMH

Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi is reportedly sitting on a 143.8-tonne $6.4-billion pot of gold - enough to pay mercenaries to fight for him for years.

The gold bullion - held by the Libyan central bank and controlled by Colonel Gaddafi - is among the 25 largest reserves in the world, the Financial Times reported, citing the International Monetary Fund.

That's one you don't hear too often.

We can take his gold just like we took all that oil from Saddam to pay for that war. These wars are specially designed to pay for themselves don't you know!

14. I see
The Globalist keep pushing the anti Qaddafi rhetoric to
justify the 'humanitarian' bombing of a nation that has
done nothing to threaten them. Just like Iraq all over again.
Your Blessed Wall Street Bankers would consider Qaddafi's
personal wealth to be pocket change. On the Taxpayers Backs.

For Christ sake Globalist Western Press, get some new material.
you only convince the Brain Dead will your worn out drivel.

29. Do you really think personal threat is the only relevant factor?
Why is it that your comment seems to disregard the threat and damage caused by Gaddafi to the Libyan people?

22. I've already started to receive those!
Started getting those last month when regime officials first started defecting. It was basically like the "Nigerian bank President" emails, but there was white-out on the email with "Libyan" pencilled in. It was great!

23. Those mercenaries
Why not airdrop leaflets with that gold news tidbit for the mercenaries to read along with graphic novel versions of Xenophon's "Anabasis"? They are mercenaries and we waste billions on cruise missiles?
I am sure even Gaddafi's loving loyalists might show a spark of interest.

(Xenophon was one of the earliest historians who wrote memoirs on Greek mercenaries bugging out of Persia on an epic trek through hostile territory after their employer was killed early on in a massive civil war.)

But it wouldn't pay for a day's worth of Wall Street bailouts or a week's worth of the costs of wars in three countries. He's a piker next to that.

32. So announce the location and quantity
in a dozen local languages and promise a pardon to any mercenary who leaves the country within X amount of time, they can take whatever gold they can carry.

But if they are there past X amount of time we start bombing for real.

There, I just wiped out 90% of Gaddafis army and it only cost us a run to kinkos.
