Quran-burning pastor: Plan to visit Dearborn opposed

A group of Christian and Muslim leaders spoke out Monday in a Detroit church against the planned visit of Terry Jones, the Quran-burning pastor from Florida.

Jones told the Free Press last week that he's coming to Dearborn next month to protest outside the Islamic Center of America against Islamic law and rule.

The Rev. Charles Williams II, pastor of King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit, said Monday that Jones is bringing "a message of hate" to Michigan.

"We don't need any outside agitators" disrupting good relations in metro Detroit among diverse religions, Williams said.

He will not be welcome here by anyone. Not whites, not blacks and certainly not the Arabs. If he comes to Detroit, he may just end up meeting his maker there. People here don't play around. After all, Detroit wasn't just given the moniker "Murder capitol of the world," it earned it.

... the guy may be looking for a boost of fame, even if by inciting an attack.

This will be a circus, ten people from his alleged church, surrounded by reporters, sound crews, video crews, more than enough to ensure security.

And the counter-demonstrators will be kept separate from circus, with a bunch of cops separating the two groups.

There's enough open fields and parking lots in that area so law enforcement can easily keep an eye on everyone. I don't think there will be murder in this case.

but if he strays into one bad neighborhood in the city proper, there's a better than 50% chance that he will be a victim of a random act of violence.

the christian right gave up publicly attacking the jews because the muslims are the new money makers.
