Kucinich blasts Obama stance on Libya
Source: WTAM

(Washington) -- While President Obama on Monday defended the military assault on Libya, he was blasted by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who says Obama is no different than his predecessor when it comes to dealing with foreign affairs.

After the president gave his speech at the National Defense University, Kucinich told WTAM 1100 that the president should be more concerned about domestic issues than he is about foreign issues, especially those that involve military activity.

According to Kucinich, "The economy is falling apart. Our cities are starved. People are without health care. All we're getting is war."

Kucinich says the situation in Libya is no different than the situation in Iraq, saying "We have to be very concerned we are getting dragged into another Iraq." The Democratic congressman from Cleveland’s west side says funding for the action in Libya should be cut off immediately.

3. Exactly
We can no longer afford to bomb other nations. Spend the money on health care and creating jobs.

4. Fortunately, Kucinich is on the fringe of the Democratic Party
The president's speech, and the mission in Libya, are based on Democratic Party principles, IMO.

5. Dennis is silly
Like the US has something else to export other than war. Come on now, get with the program, we can't make money unless we are dropping bombs and crashing airplanes.

26. Our problem is having a Yorkie for a guard dog
The fox has the run of the chicken coup. I am still wondering how the corporate shills and handmaidens will be trying brush that nuclear nightmare in Japan under the rug. You know they will, the bastards never take responsibility for anything and expect the rest of world to take care of THEIR problems. Heaven forbid some of us get smart and demand non-centralized solar generation for our energy needs :argh:

is when he is bashing Obama.

Any other time, he's mocked, at best.

older news item, but here was a "debate" on the bailout; the framing was "Dem for, Repub against" - Dem: Tim Ryan, Rep: Steve LaTourette.

Should have had Kucinich, against, and longtime conservative Republican Ralph Regula, for.

but that would go against their constant yammering about how the "democrats are big-government socialists who want to tax the rich" ...

9. Poor Dennis,
Maybe he could introduce articles of impeachment, or stamp his feet, or something.

If he can't see the difference between Iraq and Libya, he is either truly ignorant or being willfully disingenuous.

19. Kucinich is a strange.
Situation is no different than Iraq? Oh, so we had UN support, Arab support, and Iraqis pleading with us for help?

Egypt and Tunisia are on either side of Iraq while dealing with their own political upheavals?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for war. But this man is being silly.

20. Iraq was in defiance of the UN, but it was in compliance with the War Powers Act, which this is not
For all his many faults, and the cynical ugliness of that war, George W. Bush got the Congressional Authorization that is necessary unless it's a Declared War or we've been attacked.

21. Obama's justification is that instability in Libya can reverberate throughout
the Middle East and N. Africa, threatening U.S. interests. A debatable and gray area point, sure, but it does count as justification.

He notified Congress within 48 hours like he was supposed to, and has 60 days before he needs to get Congressional approval.

Again, I'm not pro-war, but Kucinich is out of line with his Iraq comparisons.

23. Dennis is correct that there are many pressing issues at home that need to be addressed.
I happen to support Obama's Libya policy, but I suspect that if Bush had done the same thing under the exact same circumstances he would be roundly condemned for it at DU. So I respect Dennis for his consistency.
