Santorum blames abortion for Social Security woes

In his latest trip to New Hampshire, Republican Rick Santorum says the Social Security system would be in much better shape if there were fewer abortions.

The former Pennsylvania senator and potential presidential candidate was asked about Social Security during an interview on WESZ-AM radio in Laconia on Tuesday morning.

He says the system has design flaws, but the reason it is in big trouble is that there aren't enough workers to support retirees. He blamed that on what he called the nation's abortion culture. He says that culture, coupled with policies that do not support families, deny America what it needs _ more people.

Social Security has a multi-trillion dollar surplus.

We need more jobs, not more people.

His logic makes about as much sense as blaming farm subsidies for abortions. Farm subsidies mean cheaper food which means people are eating better therefore are healthier and more fertile which means more pregnancies which means more abortions. See? I can do this too.

Oh, we should also blame public transportation for abortions since women might take the bus or subway to get to the abortion doctor. :eyes:

immigrants in the USA earning wages and paying into Social Security, more than the number of potential children lost to any cause, miscarriage, abortion, etc.

In other words, Rick, we have MORE THAN ENOUGH low income undocumented wage-earners in the USA who put INTO Social Security and can NEVER get a penny out, due to their status. Which is unlike that small number of abortions that would have produced a wage-earner..
