Kuwaiti PM says he fears Iraq could break up

KUWAIT, April 11 (Reuters) - Kuwait fears violence in Iraq may lead to its break-up and could spill over into neighbouring states, newspapers quoted the prime minister of the Gulf Arab state as saying on Sunday.

"I fear the escalation of matters in Iraq towards collapse if things continue as they are," Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah was quoted by leading daily al-Rai al-Aam as saying on Saturday.

The prime minister said Washington should reconsider its June 30 deadline to transfer sovereignty to Iraqis, Al-Anbaa newspaper reported.

"It will subject Iraq to break-up if Washington insists on sticking to the deadline of the handover of power to the Iraqi government as it will not be able to take charge," he said. "God knows what will be the result, which will impact us since we are neighbours."

1. ...and if it does Kuwait might be put in a bad situation
Now we hear 'em hollering loud and clear. "What about us mate?

Yeah! What about your democratic society? Why didn't the Brits or the American give 'ya one instead of taking your goddamn oil? Call up NATO they'll listen. Bush one will listen, tell him to come over and pull some strings, 'eh?

of the week in the WMW.....From Asia Times on line...atimes.com

It will be there.......how Bush wants chaos in Iraq so the privateers can take over everthing.....

However, now we see that contractors are putting plans on hold......even too hot for them.....?

4. This sounds like back channel stuff....

The Bushies are big buds with the Kuwaitis, and this would be just the thing that would help the Bushies expand their options in Iraq--local Gulf leaders saying that the US can't pull back troops, in order to protect the region, June 30th or not.

5. I bet this guy wants Chalabi in power
Chalabi would get along well with the Kuwaiti oligarchy. By the way, shouldn't Kuwait be a democracy by now. I mean, Gulf War I (really Gulf War II, since most Arabs consider the Iraq-Iran War to be Gulf War I) was over a dozen years ago.

Oh wait, Bush I supposedly fought that one over the concept of territorial inviolability and didn't care about democracy, while Bush II supposedly fought this one over democracy and didn't care about the concept of territorial inviolability.

Or was it weapons of mass destruction? Oh, that was last year's fashion. All the cool kids care about the safety of mercenaries now.

6. So the ruthless autocratic Emir of Kuwait wants a democratic Iraq?
No way. He wants a US puppet government in Iraq that will allow Kuwait to continue to slant drill Iraqi oil, but not a true Iraqi democracy.

Thanks to his toadying to this US administration, he may actually end up with a new ally for Iran: a unified, fundamentalist, Shiite Iraq!

Won't that be fun for the Sunnis in Kuwait.
