Dupont, the US chemicals group, said on Monday it would cut 3,500 jobs as part of a $900m cost-cutting programme outlined at the end of last year.
The group said the cuts, equivalent to about 6 per cent of the workforce, would primarily hit its employees in Western Europe and North America. It said about 3,000 people would be made redundant this year and another 500 would be lost through "natural attrition". The cuts do not, however, include employees affected by the sale of Invista, its textiles division.
Dupont said it would also reduce the number of contractors by 450.
