Variety: Timing for Speech is Bush League
From Tuesday's edition of Variety...

Timing for speech is Bush league
Press conference whacks nets' skeds

By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK

NEW YORK -- Here's a hint for President Bush: Don't apply for a job as network scheduler after your political career ends. You also may want to forget Simon Cowell's vote.

The networks were scratching their heads Monday after the White House asked the networks to carry a primetime press conference at 8:30 p.m. ET tonight.

If Bush was hoping for a boffo "American Idol" lead-in, he can forget it. Fox -- clearly the most impacted -- quickly decided to bump tonight's live edition of "American Idol," which normally airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., to a taped version on Wednesday.

<snip>

The trouble doesn't end there. Since Bush's press conference is starting at 8:30 -- no one in the TV biz can remember such an odd start time for a White House event -- and isn't expected to wrap until 9:15 p.m., Fox also decided to bump "24," which airs at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Not even network news execs could shed light on Bush's motives for beginning on the half-hour, instead.

1. Sinister thoughts...
I wonder if this is being timed to occur right after some action the Bush Cabal plan to take today?

Brrrrrr.... I get a shiver just contemplating what that might be?

13. 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT .... that's the earliest he could do it...
Apparently, the timeing is coinciding with some desire for the west coast to hear what the numbskull has to say. He usually gives his speeches earlier in the day...well before left coasties can get home.

Must be real important, and that makes me shudder.

Doesn't asscraft testify tomorrow? there's probably a whole coordinated day of misinformation and deflection in store for us all!

15. This must be it: pentagon asking for 10,000 more troops...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x482707

I bet it will be a speech a la FDR asking the american people to be brave and courageous and that this is a time of sacrifice, blah blah blah...

The thing is, we started out with 90,000 troops, and about 45,000 coalition troops. Magically, in a 6 month period, the US has 130,000 troops, and this was before the 'mythical rotation scheme.' So, they already 'quietly' brought in about 40,000 troops while no one was watching (ie, no one = the press). Now they want 10,000 more. And that will probably translate into another 50,000.

Liars and crooks.`

Bush contemplates intelligence overhaul; press conference tonight
http://www.gomemphis.com/mca/nation_and_world/article/0,1426,MCA_454_2802474,00.html

By Dana Milbank and Mike Allen -- The Washington Post -- April 13, 2004

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush said Monday he was contemplating a major overhaul of the nation's intelligence services as he scheduled a prime-time press conference tonight to build domestic support for his strategy in Iraq.

---snip---

Bush's suggestion that he might support a restructuring of intelligence agencies could shift some attention about the administration's response to pre-attack warnings from the White House to the CIA and FBI. Such a review also could affect the campaign debate over Bush's decision to invade Iraq using information that turned out to be erroneous.

Iraq and the administration's response to threats before the attacks promise to be prominent topics as Bush meets reporters in the East Room at 7:30 tonight. By requesting such a visible forum to explain his actions, Bush departed markedly from the past week, in which he has been mostly out of view on his Texas ranch as he endured a stream of criticism about the adequacy of his plans for suppressing an uprising against the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

The press conference will give Bush a forum to address concerns that have caused a dip in his election-year popularity. A Newsweek poll, released Saturday, found that six in 10 Americans thought the administration underestimated the threat of terrorism before the attacks.

33. oh, I get it

The great leader presidunce appears at 8:30pm in a rare appearance before the people of the United STates, and says he is going crack down, in effect, on the incompetancy and insuffuicent intelligence services

People with the childish "support your country and your presidence no matter how stupid he be" will now believe it was all the fault of the CIA and the FBI

This is brilliant--it is akin to connecting SAddam with 9-11 although not a word was actually said that would definativly make the connection.

HEre is anther subliminal suggestion being made by this cowardly prick--his failures and the deaths of all those people, was the fault of the intelligence services and now, the great leader is going to fix it.

People will believe it--I have little faith in the reading comprehension of the majority of citizens as well as the ability of a great majority to see through blatant propaganda.

18. They wanted the biggest audience. They want people who don't care...
...about politics to listen in. They will be getting, by default, a younger audience than otherwise, as well.

I wonder why they want a younger audience?

Oh, boy, where my mind goes. Right to where Bush's* mismanagement would impact me the most...my loved ones.

I'm gonna go to sleep now.

22. Things must be getting worse for the War Pig.
You know he hates having to do a press conference, as evidenced by the lack of them since he took office. His handlers obviously think there is a problem that needs addressing rather quickly.

Perhaps it has something to do with what the WH expects to come out of the 9/11 Committee hearings today? Whatever the reason, it's got something to do with damage control, I betcha!

Good.

38. Besides, the questions are not all going to be fluff-ball questions.
David Gregory and maybe also Terry Moran will be there. They tend to ask prickly stuff.

I heard a report last night that said his handlers realized they've GOT to get him back out there to blunt some of the damage. He's been laying back too much. The first Slacker pResident. How 'bout that. Actually, I'm beginning to think I LIKE him going on vacation. Gets him out of everybody's way. And whatever negative stuff invariably happens, he's not around to help spin it.

As you just said, dbt, GOOD.

27. Bastard has nothing to say. He should have to pay for this time
out of his campaign war chest. The networks should get wise to this clown, reject him and refuse to air it.

All he will do is defend his failed policies and tell more lies. His dickless and witless denials from top to bottom don't need further repetition on prime time.
