Annan Rules Out Large U.N. Team for Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040413/ap_on_re_mi_ea/un_iraq&cid=540&ncid=1480

<snip>
UNITED NATIONS - Secretary-General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) on Tuesday virtually ruled out sending a large U.N. team to Iraq (news - web sites) "for the foreseeable future" because of the recent upsurge in violence and kidnappings.

He also called for the immediate release of civilians held hostage and greater efforts to reduce the violence so the transfer of power from the U.S.-led coalition to Iraqis can go ahead in a positive political atmosphere.

Speaking to reporters on his arrival at U.N. headquarters, Annan said he did not believe the June 30 date for the transfer could be changed, a view backed by the United States.

"It has been embraced by the Iraqis themselves who are anxious to see the end of occupation as soon as possible, and I believe that it is going to be difficult to pull it back," Annan said.

1. that's just great - another door slams shut
Our options are dwindling in Iraq.

This misadministration has created such a quagmire over there.

Welcome to Iraq, The Republic of FUBAR!

5. Wrong tense - Bush HAS isolated the US from the world.
.
.
.

The United Nations doesn't want any part of it's shenanigans.

Neither does it's two neighbors.

Take away the US's money/bribes/threats etc.,

there would be NO coalition.

People don't like bullies.

Wake up, GW!

4. No country (or U.N.) in their right mind would get involved in Iraq
What does that say about the coalition (such that it is)? We're not in our right mind, for sure.

This is an INSANE occupation, and it has to stop NOW. I cannot belive I am WORKING to pay TAXES to support this insanity, this bloodshed, of our soldiers OR innocent citizens of Iraq! This puts the blood on my hands, as well, and I DON'T like it one bit.
