Japan's Defense Minister Cancels Planned Trip to Iraq

Japan's defense minister, Shigeru Ishiba, is reported to have canceled a planned trip to Iraq designed to boost the morale of his country's 550 soldiers there.


The Kyodo news agency says Mr. Ishiba had planned to go to Iraq early next week. But it says the plan was abandoned because of security fears and a series of foreign kidnappings, including three Japanese civilians.
