3. RIP Jackie, what is so surprising is that much of your work would
resonate for many of us today. You helped to bring another generation through the Great Depression.

5. RIP Mr. Cooper. I'm not certain but I think he was instrumental in child labor practices.
I do know he used to tell a story about a director who, in trying for a "genuine" cry from the boy, told him his dog had been run over.

Hope to be forgiven for pulling that bit of tid out of a long career.

20. Please explain how that fact relates to child labor practices
Edited on Thu May-05-11 05:14 AM by slackmaster
The Coogan Law was a major milestone in that department.

21. I didn't know. I thought it was a reference to the fact he worked as a kid.
So it relates in that minor way.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

K&R. His work on M*A*S*H and the White Shadow are great, but shouldn't be all he is remembered for.

13. I remember Cleo & The People's Choice too!
That & Hennessey were the two things he was famous for during what I think could be considered his heyday - he seemed to be a lot of places in the late fifties & early sixties. I thought he was handsome, too.

He had a long & distinguished career.

Plot (spoilers!!)
Full Recap
Joe Tooley is kidnapped by B.J and other employees of Garth McGregor and subsequently is said to have died in an accident on the freeway. Jim attends his former mentor’s funeral, puzzled by the fact that Joe never drove on the Freeway, then goes to Tooley’s office where he finds a pair of glasses in Tooley’s office next to a slip of paper with the address 144 Willis Avenue on it. After Jim attends Tooley’s office, fellow PI Vern St Cloud breaks in to steal some work from the deceased, only to by caught by McGregor’s employees B.J and Smithy who have the office under electronic surveillance. Vern is taken to McGregor who gives him a lie detector test.

Jim meets and meets young PI Ritchie Brockelman in the Public Gallery of the Council’s debate Hall, where Al Steever is arguing with Councillor Tom Nardoni. Ritchie is convinced that Tooley was murdered because the dead body was missing a plate in his leg. They find the 144 Willis Avenue address is empty except for a large computer bank and air conditioner. Jim and Ritchie impersonate computer experts and go to the Computer Credit Centre to find out who owns the property on Willis Avenue. They discover ‘John David Russell’ owns it. Jim and Ritchie visit Tooley’s last client, Al Steever who is investigating the corrupt city councillor Tom Nardoni and the building work he has ordered in Deadlock Canyon. By this time Garth McGregor and his employees are following Jim in a county vehicle and try to kill them on the roads. Hiding out at a motel Jim and Ritchie decide which would be better; to run away to Carbo-St-Lucas or investigate the county garage…
