Newton Mayor, Democrat Setti Warren, to run for U.S. Senate (against Scott Brown)
Source: Eagletribune.com

Newton Mayor Setti Warren, a relatively unknown political commodity and former aide to Sen. John Kerry, announced today his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Scott Brown.

"Many of you don't know me," Warren said in a five-minute web video. "I'm probably about as well known as Scott Brown was at this point two years ago."

In the video, Warren sits in front of the home where he grew up and now lives with his wife and daughter.

He calls Brown an "honorable man" but hits him for voting 87 percent of the time with national Republican leaders and voting against an extension of unemployment benefits, for changes that Warren said weaken regulation of big banks, and for the extension of tax cuts for wealthy Americans.

6. He'll be speaking to my Democratic Town Commitee this month or next
Edited on Mon May-09-11 11:46 PM by Kat45
There are several Democrats running against Scott Brown, and we've been having one speak to us each month at our meeting. We've already had two speak; sorry I don't remember their names (because my memory sucks). I liked them both, but I wasn't wowed by either of them. Brown appears to be pretty popular in this state (unfortunately), and I think we might need a 'wow' factor to beat him.

7. I gave the candidate $10 to encourage him!

Setti has a nice video at his site I enjoyed watching. I had never heard of him before and I am impressed with his articulate charisma. Very compelling story about his family, mainly his father who apparently pulled himself out of Harlem, and is now an inspirational contributor in the creation of responsible citizens from troubled situations.

I didn't learn the story behind his possibly unique name.

Barney Frank is their Representative.

8. Setti will need all the help he can get. Koch funds Brown and local media fawn all over Brown as
often as they can. You'd think Massachusetts had only one Senator.

Aside from local media leaning right in general, Brown's wife did local news--not as an anchor--as the "news" person who is sent out to the highway early on a snowy day in this part of the country, dressed in a parka, to report on how deep the snow is.
