Bush says American troops will 'finish work of fallen' in Iraq

By Terence Hunt
ASSOCIATED PRESS
7:48 p.m. April 13, 2004

WASHINGTON – Conceding a couple of "tough weeks in Iraq," President Bush signaled Tuesday night he is ready to put more American troops on the front lines and use decisive force if necessary to restore order. He said he was confident the nation would stand with him despite "gut-wrenching" televised images of fallen Americans.

At a combination speech and news conference at the White House, Bush rejected suggestions that Iraq was becoming another Vietnam – a quagmire without ready exit. "I think that analogy is false," he said. "I also happen to think that analogy sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy."

President Bush acknowledges that the United States has suffered a series of "tough weeks in Iraq," but says American forces will "finish the work of the fallen" and usher in a new era of freedom.

Standing before cameras for an hour – giving a 17-minute speech followed by reporters' questions – Bush offered no apology for the government's failure to prevent the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In response to questions, he also could not cite any mistakes or failures of his as president.

3. Before you know it, 10 years pass and 50,000 die.
But why would he care? He wasn't in the fight when it was his turn.

5. and what exactly is "the work" to which he's referring?
Is it kill more Iraqis until they're all dead?

Kill more Iraqis until the ones left start singing the Star Spangled Banner with big smiles on their faces?

Destroy Fallujah completely?

What IS the plan, GEORGE?

7. oh no, its starting ....

Like Viet'Nam, its the lack of "support" for the troops at home that will hinder our "victory" in Iraq; as if every person in America bowed at the alter of George W. Bush, like the mindless freepers do, that would change how things over there.

Hey Dumbya, the people of Iraq don't need to read U.S. newspapers or the internet to know this is Iraq'Nam

9. IN denying the analogy
They- without a hint of irony or contradiction- turn right around and confirm the same old same old blather and plans that typified the hawks in that debacle. The same blaming of critics who note we are getting pasted with no end in sight, no just cause to begin with.

Bush is not the only one.Other hawks, preening their feathers and pontificating, blow off the comparison between Iraq and Vietnam. No, they are not the same, but we are exactly the same idiots we were in the sixties. The idiots on the radio went on to talk about "Iraqifying" the war(more of an impossibility in Iraq than in Vietnam, by the way).

Unbelievable chutzpah. Been there, done that. The comparison has to do not with evil war protesters or those darn "insurgents" the amazing bunch of dolts doing everything possible to screw things up and this time for purely nefarious purposes.

Always pointing the finger at everyone else these "men of power and conviction" and ready to dish out tar they won't accept as their own just desserts.

8. The fallen
Talk about the corruption of language. He means the dead. This euphemism speak about dead and mutilated human beings is sickening. passive language from a unengaged and emotionally disconnected hollow man who resolve stands firm but whose moral core is empty.
