Philippines Says Considering Iraq Withdrawal
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040414/wl_nm/philippines_iraq_dc&cid=574&ncid=1473

MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines, one of the staunchest allies of the United States, may withdraw its peacekeepers and aid workers from Iraq (news - web sites) as security conditions worsen, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (news - web sites) said on Wednesday.

The withdrawal of the small force would be a symbolic setback for the U.S. administration as it struggles to contain violent insurgencies on two fronts in Iraq, although Arroyo stressed she had yet to make any decision.

"While the government is determined to help the Iraqi people in rebuilding their nation, the safety of our peacekeeping forces in Iraq is still our utmost concern," she said in a statement.

"The decision on whether or not to withdraw our peacekeeping forces will depend on the security situation in Iraq in the days to come."

1. "The decision on whether or not to withdraw..
our peacekeeping forces will depend on the security situation in Iraq in the days to come."

In other words, they've already packed their bags. So much for the "Coalition of the Plunderers".

2. Arroyo has more reasons to be p/o'd

A few days ago the GOP did a poll that asked its members what countries the U.S. should take over to for purposes of eliminating 'terrorists'. Thailand and the Phillipines were on the list of four countries. Arroyo got informed of it and asked the White House for an apology. She doesn't seem to have gotten a real one. But it told her what kind of value she has in the 'coalition'.
