Gingrich Apologizes to Paul Ryan for 'Right-Wing Social Engineering' Criticism
Source: Fox News

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich apologized to Rep. Paul Ryan on Tuesday after panning Ryan’s Medicare plan as “right-wing social engineering.”

Gingrich and Ryan traded emails and spoke on the phone, a call that “went really well,” according to Gingrich’s spokesman Rick Tyler.

The former House speaker also held two conference calls with Tea Party leaders, one on Monday night and one Tuesday morning, to explain what he meant by his comments Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Politico reported.

“We’ve tried to correct the record and admit it could have been done better,” Tyler told Politico. “We move on.”

This article is notable in that it is from Fox News, and it shows how Roger Ailes is once again trying to clear the way for his hand picked candidate, Mr. Boring and Elastic, Mitt Romney.

1. If you dare step off the GOP reservation, beware.
The talking points must be followed. Or else.

3. Don't make up your own. He was in Iowa the other day, looking
wan and weary. It's hard work picking up all the donations.

4. Ridiculous...
If you said it, stand by it. Gingrich has every right to misspeak. We all do. But, this was pretty cut-and-dry. End of story.

The fact that this feels forced and not like something he even wanted to do makes him all the more pathetic.

13. I'm not so sure.
Gingrich is the master of the walk-back. He knows better than most that down the road, stupid voters will only remember the lies, not the retractions.

(Or in this unusual case, only his warped version of the truth, not the lies to which he retreated.)

There is a sad mathematics underlying Gingrich's strategy, which is that an apology or retraction printed on a Tuesday never has the same sort of legs as that of a bold and divisive statement given to drooling viewers on Sunday television. The lies are still off and running while the retraction limps over to the record that TV viewers never read.

I expect to see Gingrich perform this act for as long as he can get away with it, particularly with an increasing tenor of racial terms and catch-phrases.

It is also important to remember that the Republican Party itself means little to Gingrich, who has no respect or empathy for others and who will happily exploit the GOP as a vehicle to bring himself to the level of personal power he seeks.

He simply doesn't care that he's cutting the legs out from underneath every single GOP Member of Congress. They found enough temporary leverage over him to get him to walk this back, but now he will attack the leverage point, and begin undermining the small mechanism of control they think they have over him.

So he'll do it again next week, and score again with the knuckle-draggers.

10. Republicans are so cult-like these days
Newt gets that now. He better Join The Cult and do as he's told - or he's done. They are NOT allowed to even think for themselves! Creepy fuckers. How can you EVER refuse to raise taxes - even on billionaires? Well, to be a Republican these days you have to PROMISE not to EVER raise taxes on BILLIONAIRES! I'll say it again - creepy fuckers. And there's something quite wrong with the people who continue to vote for them - bad influence from Foxnews, right-wing hate radio, fear propaganda, etc for the most part - a good bit of racism this time too. Ugh.
