Missing Al Jazeera Reporter Dorothy Parvaz Is Freed
Source: The New York Times

A day after Iran said it was pursuing information about a missing Al Jazeera reporter sent to Tehran by the Syrian government in early May, the Arabic news channel said she had been freed and had returned to the broadcaster’s headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

The channel quoted its own spokesman as saying she was “safe and well and back with us in Doha.”

“She has been in contact with her family and we are with her now to find out more about her ordeal over the last 18 days,” the spokesman said.

Although she disappeared on an assignment to Syria to cover antigovernment unrest, she arrived back in Doha on a plight from Iran, the broadcaster said.

5. Al Jazeera journalist released from detention. Dorothy Parvaz who disappeared on assignment in Syria
19 days ago, was sent back to Doha by Iranian authorities.

Al Jazeera has confirmed the release of its journalist, Dorothy Parvaz, who was detained in Syria upon her arrival in Damascus nineteen days ago, while on assignment.

During that time she was not allowed any contact with the outside world. She landed in Doha, Qatar on May 18 on a flight from Iran.

"We are grateful to the Iranian officials that she was treated well, and she confirmed that," Barker, who is planning on marrying Parvez this summer, told Al Jazeera.

He thanks US and Canadian officials, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the international Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and all of those who had rallied in support of his fiancée.

6. Thank god.
This is how pessimistic I've become: I read the subject line this way: "Missing Al Jazeera Reporter Dorothy Parvas Found Dead." So glad it isn't true.
