Bush Is Stumped on Question of Mistakes
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040414/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_no_mistakes_4

WASHINGTON - President Bush acknowledged a good deal of introspection after all the questions lately about his government's actions before the Sept. 11 attacks and in Iraq, but not a whiff of contrition. Bush was asked in his prime-time news conference if he had made any mistakes.

"I'm sure something will pop into my head here," he said Tuesday. It didn't.

Bush is rarely one to second-guess himself and wasn't about to now, despite failures highlighted in the government's pre-Sept. 11, 2001, intelligence operations, the futile search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and all the recent violence there.

"I don't want to sound like I have made no mistakes," he said Tuesday night. "I'm confident I have."

But "maybe I'm not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one."

1. What a moron
He tries to come off all humble but doesn't have anything to back it up with. Simply playing to his religious base and supporters who don't like to think to much.

he has so much to be humble about.

7. Yeah but
their mistakes have killed thousands of people: American, Afghani and Iraqi. We already know what their mistakes are. It would be nice to hear them own up to their mistakes.

His peanut-sized brain is so overwhelmed, the unelected moron can't pick just one.

Hey Bush! You're stupid!

6. "Once I thought I made a mistake, but
I was wrong." LOL, he needs to have that on his desk in the oval office.

I don't think I have ever met anyone as cocky, arrogant and egotistical as Bush. Also, I can't believe that the press corps spent so much time trying to get him to admit he made a mistake. Maybe they were trying to "bring him down a notch" from his arrogance.

8. That one killed me
Here's the correct answer to cover his butt. "No one's perfect, but on the whole, I think we've done a fabulous job." He's so arrogant even the obvious answer eluded him.

He's got a couple of other sentence starters, too, as equally banal.

13. Also remember ....
the Chimp was adamant that he will remain on the job as president! So I guess it's official then... the elections will be stolen again. Just a hypothetical though...what if Kerry wins the election and the Repubes start claiming that the elections were rigged/stolen like in 2000?? Do you think the Repubes would stoop that low?

19. There is nothing these Republicans would not do.
No trick too mean, no depth too low, no Skull too duggeried. These soul-less bastards will murder, rape, maim, steal, rob, burn, lie, and weep when they pray to their make believe god. They have no consciences, no scruples, no ethics and no hearts. Dick Cheney is the poster boy for these gutless puddles of puke and he would kill his own mother for a new pair of shoes. "Too low"? The words in connection to these Republicans don't even make sense.

11. Marvel at the incredible intellectual depth of our president.
Here's a perfect example of a question that Clinton could reflect on and talk about with ease. Bush on the other hand is at a loss for words. Unless he has a script he can't even engage in a conversation about the weather. What a total disgrace and embarrassment it is that he is the leader of our country.

18. The thing is,
how many of us do NOT remember our own mistakes. It is mistakes we remember above all else - it is the way we learn. It is obvious this man has never even considered or thought about his own actions. He is bereft of normal emotion and thought.

15. Sign of complete insecurity-- even his partial admission
He says "I'm confident I have made mistakes, but I can't think of any." Even that is an attempt to claim he's flawless, since admitting to never make a mistake would seem delusional.

Then there was his attempt at the "Fool me once" cliche. As Conason pointed out, the line he was completely unable o say was "Shame on me."

He's completely unable to admit he has made a mistake, or even form the words. That's not a sign of arrogance that's a sign of total insecurity. This man is completely unstable. His mother was mean, his father was abusive. Look at JEB, look at Neal, they are all mean. W is mean, but he's more insecure than the others. It would almost be sad-- a typical abused child-- if he weren't in his fifties, and slaughtering significant numbers of people.

Unstable leaders wind up committing horrible atrocities.

17. And the press idiots tripped all over themselves afterward ...
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 11:26 AM by damnraddem
to note that had Dubya issued an apology, it would have opened him to Democratic broadsides. What a lie! Kerry's nightmare must be that Dubya WOULD apologize -- that would: (1) make Dubya look as human as possible, for him; (2) take the wind out of some of the criticism; and (3) make any broadside about said apology counterproductive. The smart thing would be for Dubya to apologize. The thing is that he just can't do it.

And note that he said that he would have invaded Iraq even had he known there were no WMDs. Aside from the likelihood that he in fact did do so, what about the original claim that that was THE reason for the invasion? And he repeated last night that Saddam was a danger to the US -- an outright lie.

Bush has despicable policies and is evil. He's very dangerous because he can phrase things in a nonthreatening manner and charm the public. The way he phrased this also shows that he is not stupid.

35. Judging by his performance last night..
He would have been stumped if they asked him his middle name.

As I read on a Yahoo board last night, Kerry doesn't have to campaign anymore. Just show re-runs of this press conference.

It was quite an understatment when they said the Chimp brings his message down to what the average american can understand.

40. His big mistake

was thinking that being The President was an easy job. Clinton must have made it look too easy. People can say what they want about Clinton, but he worked VERY hard.

What I hate about Dubya is that he's lazy, that's why he didn't do anything about the security alerts before 9-11. It is really a deadly combination: stupid and lazy.
