Macho Man Randy Savage Dies In Car Accident
Source: TMZ sports

TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM ... and lost control of his vehicle.

Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn.

Savage was 58.

...

UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ ... Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median ... through oncoming traffic ... and "collided head-on with a tree."

22. Born and raised in Downer's Grove, Ill
Then moved to Sarasota because it was closer to Georgia, Florida, and Memphis territories where he worked for a long while before joining WWE. He's been living in Tampa ever since joining WCW.

His father once held the world situp record at 6033 situps.

Savage's original passion was baseball. Even played in minor league teams before going into wrestling.

The man who gave him the name of Randy Savage was wrestler Ole Anderson for the comment "He wrestles like a savage"

RIP Randy

8. Too young. Too sad.
I know little about him, but as I prepare to attend the funeral of one of my best friends today who died quietly at home of a heart attack Monday, I'm reminded what a gift it is to be alive on this sunny afternoon. I'll try no to take it for granted.

I'm very sorry for The Macho Man's family and friends.

11. Bummer. So many wrestlers have died in recent years.
Also Macho Man's "paramour," Miss Elizabeth, who died of a drug OD about eight years ago. One after another.

I haven't watched wrestling this decade; maybe finally grew up. Maybe tired of all the tragic, too young deaths ('roids) so Vince McMahon could line his pockets.

36. I remember watching the Von Erichs implode as a kid in Texas
They were the last holdouts against the McMahon-style national pro-wrestling market. And yeah, it's sad to see another generation of wrestlers start to burn out and die too young.

Seriously, I heard from people that met him that he was a really nice guy. It's so sad.

I'm going to snap into a Slim Jim. This one's for you, Mr. Savage.

Crashing into a tree?
Having a medical condition when you are 58 and twice as big as most people?
Living in Florida?

Until you hear that steroids caused this death - piss off.

19. The tower of power, too sweet to be sour, funky like a monkey, oh, yeah
I've never seen him wrestle, even on TV, but his "Macho Man" (for some inexplicable reason pronounced by the female chorus as match-o man, even though Randy gets it right) is playing right now in memoriam.

"I'm the macho man, Randy Savage
Doin' the thing in the ring
I'm the king of the pro wrestling generation
Nobody does it better than the macho man.

I am what I am. I am the macho man.
Wall-to-wall, macho man is everywhere.
It doesn't really matter, 'cause we're all in it together
And I'm gonna help you find the light at the end of the tunnel

Announcer: The Macho Man, Randy Savage!
Chorus:
He gets your heart a-thumpin'
He gets the party jumpin'
He's the macho man.
Everybody's saying
He's really quite amazing
He's the macho man

He had the best schtick, with the hats and the glasses. You could always tell he was acting, since he wasn't very good at that part, but what a great character.

29. My god, "Leaping" Lanny Poffo was the Macho Man's brother?!?
What the fuck? Terrible accident, too many wrestlers don't even live this long, though. I know a lot of people discredit professional wrestling but for some people it's a job just like profesional football. With less money, more injuries, and usually a short career.

I will snap into a Slim Jim in Randy's memory.

31. Sad to hear!!
Oh man, I'm bummed about this. Actually "ran into" him when I worked with TBS back in the late 90's. I was doing some work at the WCW HQ, walked around a corner and right into him. Apologized quickly as my mind had been elsewhere, and I wasn't paying attention, "No problem, lil guy" was his gruff "in character" response lol. He was very cool.

Savage's wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision -- but survived with "minor injuries." She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.

It might be more accurate to say "Randy Savage has car accident as a result of dying"
