Refugees tell of rising anger in Fallujah
http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0414/p01s03-woiq.html

<snip>
BAGHDAD – With a US Apache helicopter hovering above, Kadher Fudella took her children and began to run. She did not stop until she reached the highway, along with scores of other refugees, flagging down cars headed to Baghdad.

"My children tried to run away and the helicopters chased them," says Ms. Fudella, breaking into tears. "Families were running through the streets.... Windows were broken, and many, many people were dead."

Fudella is one of tens of thousands of refugees to have fled the besieged city of Fallujah, where a US assault left 600 dead last week. The victims include hundreds of women and children, according to hospital and clinic records in Fallujah, before a cease-fire was carved out over the weekend.

<snip>

Fudella told her story from a crowded, dank, bomb shelter in Baghdad, alongside some 60 other Fallujan women and children. With tattooed hands and black veils wrapped around their faces, the women shouted out accusations of reckless killings by the US forces the say they witnessed: a neighbor's house bombed, killing all 19 people inside; a 5-year-old gunned down by a sniper on a minaret; an old man mowed down by helicopter fire.

1.  "they're our thugs and they're protecting us against the brutal occupiers
AMY GOODMAN: Would you say that there is tremendous fear among the Iraqis?

RAHUL MAHAJAN: There was fear. There was a great deal of fear. But I see -- I actually see Iraqis losing their fear, and seeing it translated into anger. The same people that have said, you know, "Al Sadr's people are thugs", well, some of them still say it, but now they say it, in a sense, "they're our thugs and they're protecting us against the brutal occupiers". People of Fallujah say that the Mujahadin, they're our boys and our people and, you know, we support them. So, I don't think that the Iraqi people feel -- I think that they do feel that there will be consequences. There are women in Baghdad who go around with uncovered heads who know that in Fallujah, if they do that, they're very likely to be the subject of violence, but they still support the Mujahadin because they're so much against the brutal occupation. So I see much less fear and much more anger.

4. Does that little angel of a baby look like "the enemy" to you?
that is what Kimmitt (sp) and his peeps are calling her, and the mother, and the little boy. They're telling us that we're killing "the enemy", "the rebels". They are liars.. and they are hidden behind barbed wire walls, free to commit crimes against humanity. And we are paying for this slaughter.

6. Don't look like enemies to me.
But isn't it nice how we're teaching them to hate us. No one has to tell them anything. They see what we've done to their homes and families and draw perfectly reasonable conclusions.

5. Yea, and we'll hear the outcry from americans...
when they witness more barbequed mercenaries.

I daydream. I dream about building a time machine and spending the rest of my life in the Clinton years.
