Mass. Sen. Scott Brown rejects Medicare overhaul plan, says he will not support Ryan budget

BOSTON — Republican Sen. Scott Brown, reversing a position he took earlier this month, said Monday he will vote against the House Republican budget because he cannot support U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s proposal to transform Medicare into a voucher system.

“While I applaud Ryan for getting the conversation started, I cannot support his specific plan — and therefore will vote “no” on his budget,” Brown wrote in an op-ed in Politico.

The Massachusetts senator, who is seeking re-election in 2012, had been under fire from Democrats in his state after telling a gathering of business leaders in Georgetown, Mass., that he planned to vote for the GOP budget even though he did not expect it to pass.

Too bad, I was kind of hoping he'd vote for it, it wouldn't pass, and we'd next get another Dem senator from Ma.
