House GOP, Dems Push To Pull US Forces Out Of Afghanistan
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON — Several House Republicans and Democrats are pushing to accelerate the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan after the killing of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.

Republican Jason Chaffetz of Utah and Democrat Peter Welch of Vermont sent a letter to House colleagues Wednesday seeking support for their effort, one of several amendments they plan to offer to the defense bill. The House is expected to vote on the measure either Wednesday or Thursday.

In the letter, Chaffetz and Welch question the effectiveness of U.S. strategy in a "10-year nation-building effort in a deeply corrupt Afghanistan." They argue it makes no sense amid the nation's economic woes.

6. .......
"The principle is often inaccurately summarized as "the simplest explanation is most likely the correct one." This summary is misleading, however, since the principle is actually focused on shifting the burden of proof in discussions.<3> That is, the razor is a principle that suggests we should tend towards simpler theories (see justifications section below) until we can trade some simplicity for increased explanatory power. Contrary to the popular summary, the simplest available theory is sometimes a less accurate explanation. Philosophers also add that the exact meaning of "simplest" can be nuanced in the first place."

5. That's what I thought too.
Is the Military-Industrial Complex coming up with a new business plan to get more corporate welfare? Invasion of Libya perhaps? I hear there's rapes going on in the oil fields over there.

7. MSNBC Republicans and Libertarians have been callling for withdrawal from
Afghanistan for quite a while. And, before that, a bunch of military men had hit the talk shows emphasizing that Taliban were very different from Al Q'aeeda, had never attacked us and were no threat to us within our own borders.

Dummya had pretty much wound down in Afghanistan. It was Obama who, while campaigning, said we had taken "our eye off the ball in Afghanistan" when we invaded Iraq. And it was also Dummya who had set the withdrawal schedule in Iraq.

Go figure, huh?

8. Wha??????????????????
Does anyone have an idea of exactly WHEN a rep crosses from public servant to corporate tool? Is it at the moment of the acceptance speech? Is it when they first enter the appropriate chamber beneath the capital dome? It's a sarcastic question for sure, but with a solid majority of American citizens wanting us out of this war and the other two, how is it that this initiative is news at all?

14. "Several"
Seems like sanity would be more popular.

Figures I even find positive news depressing. Still I'm going to hope that it catches on.
