Poll: Kerry has hefty double-digit lead in New York | Boston.com
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Sen. John Kerry has a hefty double-digit lead over President Bush among New York state voters, a statewide poll released Wednesday reported.

The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute found Bush's approval rating had slipped to 40 percent in New York, the lowest point yet for the Republican president. In the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center towers, Bush's approval rating in New York had soared above 80 percent.

In the latest poll from the Hamden, Conn.-based institute, Kerry was favored by 53 percent of New York voters to 36 percent for Bush in a head-to-head matchup.

1. That's all well and good but it's almost certain that Kerry will carry
NY. What about in the battle ground states? IS Kerry making any ground?

Every little bit counts, even those that are "guarantees."
As for battleground states, I haven't completed any research, but nationwide, Kerry is up. Eg,

"Kerry was backed by 50 per cent of the people polled on April 8-9, while 43 per cent said they favoured Bush in the November 2 presidential campaign."

On edit:
Or Rasmussen Reports:

"The survey found Senator John F. Kerry with 47% of the vote and President George W. Bush with 45%. The poll has found the candidates within two points of each other on 34 of the past 44 days. Kerry opened up a modest lead last week, but that vanished following the testimony of Condoleezza Rice and improving news from Iraq."

8. Oooh, this is NOT lookin' as good as I'd hoped
Florida? Out of the question, far too corrupt.

Only a six-point lead in Washington? Ick, could be double that considering how thoroughly bush has trashed the West Coast economy. Same with California, lead should be a comfortable 15.

Up by a weak three in Minnesota. A 1-point lead in PA is nothing. That's within striking range of a single attack-ad campaign.

Down by 7 in Missouri -- not a good sign as far as taking some of the southern states goes.

Up by four in Ohio, that's a ray of hope, but it's Diebold's home state.

No surprises in NC or IL.

Well, considering that Kerry has been keeping his powder dry, and the bushistas have just come off a $40+ million attack campaign, I guess I ought to be happy. But... "I have a bad feeling about this."
