Hot summer on its way in Canada
Source: CBC News

Get out your golf clubs, swimsuits and barbecues because it's official — the country is in for a hot summer, according to Environment Canada.

The weather agency announced its three-month seasonal forecast for June, July and August on Wednesday.

"People were looking for a warm summer after a wet spring in much of the country, so it's good news," Toronto-based CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe said in an interview.

Above-normal temperatures are predicted for the next three months across the country with trends based on 40 years of historical data.

1. That hot weather paused here, on the way to Canada.
Heat index today =101.
June 1. Temps in high 90's, no rain for weeks in our area, cotton crops have burned in the fields and there can be no re-planting.

6. Not if you were here in the Deep South of the U.S,
where we are sizzling with temps in the high 90s.

11. I lived in the North for most of my life
and moved to NC about 7 years ago. Now, I'm in western NC, in the mountains -- I'm not in one of the places I consider sweltering. One of the many attractions of the area was a relatively temperate climate. Unfortunately, like everyone else, we've been impacted by climate change -- we had a couple of whopper snowstorms this past winter along with some bitterly cold days and nights and we've had record-breaking heat this spring. I hate to think what this bodes for this summer!

The weather when I first moved here lived up to its reputation -- mild year round seasons. We got lovely seasonal changes but all really pretty temperate. Overall, I find the summers better than the Northeast (I lived in NYC, MA, CT) without the degree of hot, humid summers that I experienced in all 3 northern states; I also lived in WI during the summer that all of the people in Chicago died from the heat -- that was a nightmare summer! (I didn't have A/C -- one of my dogs had seizures when I was at work most likely from the heat -- I had left tons of water all over the house, the basement door open for access to the cooler basement & the cement floor & fans all over the place -- wasn't enough. I got home from work and the poor baby was covered with her own shit and could barely stand.) I later lived in Chicago and those summers were pretty miserable, too. Even with climate change, I'm definitely still better off here than I was in the Northeast during winter and summer!

5. As one scientist put it ....
as long as the glaciers are still melting it's like having your

freezer door open --

We here in NJ are more than 25 degrees above normal already --

We've had 90 degrees in May --

And huge amounts of rain --

Good luck to us all!!

8. And here in Vegas it should be low 90s but most days are between 60 and 80.
10-30 degrees below normal.

I know it's fucked up, but I can't help but love it while it lasts.

10. Colder than normal spring in Minnesota as well ... following the winter which would not end.
A top five winter for snow fall, lasting through April sure, it's Minnesota, but that's just cruel). May was also colder than normal. I believe I heard we finished the month as seven consecutive months with below normal temps on Minnesota Public Radio.

12. I Moved to Portaland, OR 10 Years Ago and I see the Change
When I moved here it was misty/rainy from October until June. Now, the winter is less harsh (or awful with snow) and we have lots of clear days during the winter. It's getting warm in May rather than waiting until June or July.

There is change going on and I can see it. I hope it doesn't hurt the farmers, the wineries.

13. cold and wet in the bay area
Usually our rainy season ends around Apr 1st. But it rained
again today on June 1 as it has many days in May. Usually we
have to wait for the summer fog to cool things down but it has
barely warmed at all from winter this year.
