Gov. Nixon: 134 dead from Joplin tornado, all accounted for
Source: Gannet

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said today that 134 people have been identified as deceased and their relatives notified. He said officials have no reason to believe that any of the human remains at the temporary facility represent any more fatalities.

No people remain on the list of unaccounted for people from the Joplin tornado, Nixon said.

The total of 134 includes 124 people on the unaccounted for list who died, 7 people who died whose bodies were never taken to the temporary morgue, and 3 people who died in the hospital since the tornado.

“In the wake of this devastating tornado, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and dedication in carrying out the vital mission of locating every individual who was unaccounted for after the storm,” Nixon said. “Our troopers worked 24/7 to locate these individuals and to bring relief to the families of the living and closure to the families of those who died."

1. It's bound to go up
Lots of the victims are here in local hospitals and dealing with horrific injuries. One had to have a leg amputated yesterday. Another died from an infection on Monday.

So so sad.

2. No, after 10 days, all areas probably have been searched.
Perhaps one or two other finds, but most people have been accounted for.

Trust the people on the ground, they know what they are dealing with.

But so so sad if only one person dies from this.

People are still dying from their injuries.
