White House on Ryan's Medicare reforms: It is a 'voucher plan'
Source: The Hill

Hours after Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) asked President Obama to stop “demagoguing” his Medicare reforms by calling it a voucher plan, the White House declared it has no intention of backing off.

“What you call it doesn't change what it is and what it does,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “It is a voucher plan.”

Carney said that the president's criticisms — he would not endorse or condemn the efforts of other Democrats to demonize the proposal — are not “a matter of demagoguery.”

“There is no question that on the issue of Medicare, there are significant differences,” Carney said.

I guess the Republicans will refuse to negotiate on the debt ceiling unless the Democrats stop telling the truth about the GOP RyanCare voucher plan.

3. I am still confused on one point
How is it vouchers in lieu of health care=bad but vouchers in lieu of education=good?

I hate asking that, because it seems to open a chink in the "not gonna do this" armor, which is the last bloody thing we need. Do not let them have this one, Democrats.

6. Vouchers in lieu of "Education"....are ..very bad..
Edited on Thu Jun-02-11 11:14 AM by Stuart G
Why? They enable the destruction of the public schools as we know them. A voucher to attend some "charter school" or some private school underminds funds going to the schools that need them the most.

..so a school has low reading scores, needs reading teachers to help raise the scores. Special programs to improve reading. If funds are removed to the so called "voucher schools" no money to improve reading scores..well.............who cares?
cause..the reading scores are of "poor children" and well they don't count..

........ Isn't that the idea that the Thugs, and anyone else infavor of this, want to promote ??

Yes, you might not like my view..but that is the truth...

12. That was what I always thought
But I am under the impression that the president was willing to go along with school vouchers.

7. Vouchers in education is bad too.
We should not be subsidizing parochial or private schools at the expense of public schools.

9. Vouchers in education are just as bad if not worse. nt
Vouchers for education only benefit the upper class as another tax break.

10. Requiring Seniors To Use Teachers in Lieu Of Doctors For Medicare Is Wrong!
If this is what the Republicans are proposing, then Democrats should capitalize on this.

11. baloney
it is a voucher plan that will not be pegged to the rising costs of health care. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. It's a hill of discredited tired old bull shit from heritage.

13. Dear WH - call it the kill-Medicare plan b/c low-information voters can't get "vouchers"
For the sheeple, keep it simple, it should be the kill-Medicare plan.

Maybe "coupon-care" for short
