Roberts contradicts Frist on Clarke
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 06:02 AM by JoFerret
http://www.hillnews.com/news/041404/roberts.aspx

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, says former Bush counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke’s testimony before a joint congressional panel on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks did not contradict his later testimony before a presidentially appointed commission.

Roberts’s comments to The Hill contradict a stinging condemnation of Clarke by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) on the Senate floor after Clarke accused President Bush of failing to take Osama bin Laden seriously before Sept. 11.

4. Frist...............
is the spawn of Satan incarnate. The pukes view him as a squeaky clean, highly honorable public servant that embodies all the the qualities good 'Murkins should have.
The truth of the matter is he's just another cold, heartless tool of an organization that worships power, not God or Country. Power is their aphrodisiac, their lifeblood.
Frist fits the mold perfectly. He's more than willing to sell his soul for power.

6. You Must read the whole article!
What it sounds like to me is Frist went on the word of staffers to staffers he didn't consult Roberts and if that's the case what we have here is more criminal behavior from the staffers/Republicans. Yes, Frist should be censured and if staffers on the Intelligence Committee opened their pie-holes they need to be fired!

<snip>
Bob Stevenson, Frist’s spokesman, told The Washington Post that on March 24, while Clarke testified before the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, “a number of staff members of the Senate Intelligence Committee familiar with Clarke’s 2002 joint intelligence committee testimony contacted the senator’s staff and said ‘the tone’ was ‘quite different from 2002.’”

Roberts said Republican staffers on the intelligence panel “will be in trouble” if he finds out they took the initiative to relate Clarke’s closed-door testimony to Frist’s staff.

Roberts said the appropriate handling of the matter would have been for Senate intelligence staff to brief him and for Roberts to brief Frist directly.

</snip>

<snip>
When asked if he based his floor criticisms on a transcript of Clarke’s 2002 closed-door testimony and drew his own conclusions from that transcript, Frist said that he had.
</snip>

SO this means either A) Frist is lying and he wasn't suppose to look at Clarke's transcript without Robert's knowledge. and/or B) Frist is a dumb ass that can not read a transcript and interpret it correctly.

13. censure is about the best for now
here's a little info. with a link
http://www.senate.gov/reference/reference_index_subjects/Censure_vrd.htm
Censure
Less severe than expulsion, a censure (sometimes referred to as condemnation or denouncement) does not remove a senator from office. It is a formal statement of disapproval, however, that can have a powerful psychological effect on a member and his/her relationships in the Senate. In 1834, the Senate censured President Andrew Jackson – the first and only time the Senate censured a president. Since 1789 the Senate has censured nine of its members.
</snip>

I say call your Senators and demand them to to censure Frist. I know there are people on blogs calling for it here's a link to one.
http://bodyandsoul.typepad.com/blog/2004/03/censure.html

One other thing the way people went after Senator Lott (and we know *Bush wanted Frist in and Lott out) we should go after Frist! I wanted Lott out but let's face it that was WH manipulated. Our corporatista media wouldn't of went after Lott and given the people the momentum like they did had it not been in their interest to do so.

Watch though, Frist is going to get away with this crap he's a *Bush boy and the Executive went around calling Clarke a liar right along with Frist he can say the WH didn't influence him to get up on the Senate floor and spew lies about Clarke but they did!

9. Yeah, Frist was probably listening to Limbaugh and the likes,
...and like the idiot Frist is, he ran right out in the middle of traffic not knowing that he was gonna get hit.

When 'ya play in the street, 'ya get run over!!

Roberts wished that Frist had consulted with him before making his floor statement.

This party is coming apart at the seams, everyone wants to be a hero!

Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 07:04 AM by Mountainman
They all got the Rove memo like Bill First did and like the whores they are, blasted Clarke for a whole week. And now that it is shown what liars they are will they apologize and have the character to say they were wrong? No! They lack anything that resembles character. Character matters to them doesn't it.

14. Frist should issue a public apology to Clarke
from the floor of the Senate, just like he publicly accused him of a felony from the floor of the Senate.

This is incredibly irresponsible conduct by the Senate Majority Leader.

16. How about Frist's aspirations to the presidency?
A friend of mine who is a right-wing radio talk show host (ick) told me a few weeks ago he absoluteley believed that what Frist charged on the floor of the Senate had to be believable because he wants to run for President in 2008 and if he was lying about Clarke, that would ruin his chances.

I just sent my friend that article and asked, "So, are Frist's ambitions now down the tubes?"

I hope a very big deal is going to be made of this and that it does in fact ruin any chance to him being nominated by his party, ever, for anything.

What a slimeball.

20. And that Kitten-Killer actually thinks he's going to be Prez in '08?
Frist has issues. Many issues. I don't understand why lies, from people like Frist, are mostly unchallenged. I applaud Roberts for speaking the truth. But.. I really wish the media would point out, whenever the Kitten-Killer makes the assertion that Clarke's timing is "suspicious", that the WHITE HOUSE held Clarke's book until it was recently released. He gave them the original one to go over, in October! According to Clarke on the Daily Show, they "took out some really good stuff!".

is equivalent to a retraction that is buried on page 16.

23. Send Frist to jail with the other right wing liars
They tried to impeach clinton over lying about his sex life, but they lie every day to the American people about important issues.

All of these corrupt right wing liars need to be run out of office.
