2 Iraqi cities in crisis

<snip>
The U.S. military wrestled Wednesday with the spiraling insurgency in Iraq (news - web sites) by pounding the western city of Fallujah with heavy artillery and encircling the holy city of Najaf with armor and troops in an effort to vanquish a firebrand Shiite cleric and his militia.

In Fallujah, the soldiers are fighting Sunni Muslims and rebel elements still loyal to the regime of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein (news - web sites). In Najaf, troops are threatening to attack the militia of Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr, who launched an anti-American uprising two weeks ago.

<snip>
Iraqi leaders from Fallujah and Najaf were attempting to ease the crisis. Fallujah tribal leaders and officials met for a fourth day to negotiate with coalition officials.

But throughout the day, the city came under fire from U.S. warplanes and helicopters firing heavy machine guns, rockets and cannons. Iraqi Governing Council member Ghazi Mashal Ajil al-Yawer, a Sunni involved in the negotiations, described the situation inside Fallujah as calamitous.

"There's an escalation despite spending a lot of time negotiating," he said.

1. Carrot and stick
So the IGC is saying "lets be peaceful here" and only to be drowned out by a strafing Apache gunship? Real credible.

7. Maybe that's why
Could it be that one of the reasons of the reactionaries' obvious hatred of fellow man is the result of some long-standing insecurities about their lack of looks and social skills? The sick bastards must've had a pretty bad time through high school and college. And for a lot of them, that time was in the 60s, when everybody else was out there chilling, smoking dope and frolicking on the college green.

Mark Ames had a cool piece touching on the subject in NY Press a while ago. Makes sense to me.

Surely, SOMEONE can help this mentally disabled individual who has successfully hidden his illness,...all the way to the top.

Geez, Soros,...reach out to this wacked-out human being who is falling into being exactly what he fears.

11. This Whole Administration is Mentally Inferior
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 08:46 PM by stepnw1f
I'll tell you why. When a person is delusional, maniacal, megalomaniacs or sociopath and doesn't seek help, at the expense of a country, then that IS inferior. People who seek the help, and sacrifice their own pride to change for other people around them, are the ones with real balls!!! These people in the administration are pathetic and should be treated with absolute disrespect. People who are educated as to the true implication of this President's policies, and yet still support him, are just as sick and pathetic. They somehow feel empowered by these bastards with their jingoistic shit. Truly sickening. I call them all filth!
