Madison -- Assistant Attorney General Kevin St. John contended the Legislature can lock its doors to the public despite a provision of the state constitution that says the doors to the two houses shall remain open when they are in session.

St. John said that part of the constitution means that the Legislature cannot meet in secret.........................

It is a brief article and only one quote which seems to be convoluted IMHO.

The SC of WI is hearing oral arguments as to whether or not to hear the open meetings case.

1. Makes perfect sense...
We tell you that we're meeting but then we tell you that you cannot come to the meeting. Sure, that's logical.

2. Bullshit!
If that were the true accepted meaning we would not have enacted a open meetings law!

4. I really hope the people
of the entire country are watching what happens when you elect idiots, or don't bother to vote, without thinking your actions through to the logical end.

The logical end being the kind of Government you know see in places like WI, NJ and FL.

8. Fight back. Become a voter registrar. Contact your municipal clerk for details....
...newly registered voters overwhelmingly tilt left.

Camp out where our otherwise-disenfranchised voters can find you. Outside Good Will or St. Vinnies are good spots.

Make sure the Reich's voter suppression laws don't let them steal America!!

9. The Good News Is the WI Gov't Is Afraid of Its People
The bad news is, they aren't afraid enough, that they are consistently voting to screw them over.

17. Good question but note this was oral argument at the court,
not in writing; he was being an 'advocate,' foolish nonetheless. Hope the justices spanked him there, and/or will do so in written decision.

16. Don't think so.
'There may be a variety of circumstance where it is perfectly allowable to lock the doors," St. John told the Supreme Court justices. But the meeting could still be considered in public and in compliance with the constitutional provision that the doors remain open, he said.'

Doubt it, and hope justices question this strongly. NO WAY locking doors could allow this to be considered 'in public' and in compliance, imo.

As to news article, 'can' means physically possible, imo. According to quote, he said 'may be ... circumstances.'
