Katie Couric signs deal for ABC talk show
Source: Raw Story

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Katie Couric has signed a multi-year deal with ABC television to host and produce her own syndicated daytime talk show starting in September 2012, ABC said on Monday.

Couric, 54, will also contribute to other ABC News programs starting this summer, anchoring specials and contributing interviews, the Disney/ABC Television Group said in a statement.

The daytime show is as yet untitled but will be produced by Jeff Zucker - Couric's old boss from her days as host of NBC's top-rated morning show "Today".

Couric, known as "America's Sweetheart", ended a five-year stint on May 19 as anchor of rival network "CBS Evening News". On her appointment in 2006, she was the first woman to serve as a solo U.S. network evening news anchor.

1. I liked Scott Pelley's work on 60 Minutes
I hope he can bring the same attitude to the CBS evening news.

9. Not Bush, just network owning and commercial buying corporations
Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 04:57 PM by Uncle Joe
It just so happens that Bush also believes that corporations should dominate the government and by extension, the American People, that's the only reason the corporate media enabled him to power.

Sixty Minutes is one of the better programs but even that show could only stretch the envelope so far.

The Republicans know the corporate media has an inherent conflict of interest which virtually always favors corporations/privatization over the public good, that's why they're so intent on slashing the meager federal budget alloted to public television and radio as a means to make those institutions more dependent on corporate donations in order to exist.

3. Now that Oprah's gone, I imagine the field is wide open ...
for women hosts trying to capture her bereaved network audiences. May the best gal win.

I see now why Couric left.

5. That's a more fitting place for her.
She might have an entertainment value. I never felt she deserved the evening news gig.

8. I liked her news delivery. It was easy to listen to. Brian William's delivery is annoying.
I really don't like when they accentuate certain words and stop in mid-sentence to insert sound (chain saw etc.) from a video clip they're showing.

6. Good place for...
the warm & fuzzy, perky things Couric is best known for.

7. I wish that ABC would've had SportsCenter on that slot instead.
Just my personal preference; ABC and ESPN are both under the same corporate parent Disney Company. But I think that this talk show will be a profitable, fitting venue for Couric, just as the Today show was in the 90s and 00s. She ain't an evening news type for sure.

10. Mediocrity Just Lives On and On
The only thing Katie has done that's worth while is help expose what a dumb ass Sarah Palin is. "What newspapers and magazines do you read?" is not a "gotcha question." Even the most horrible right-winger could say "The Wall Street Journal" or the "Washington Post" two right-wing rags.

It would be great if you gotcha some education Sarah. You are an ignorant fuck. And where the hell did you come up with the names of your kids? Trigg? Really? Trigg? I am so embarrassed for you.
