Strong 6.2-quake rattles Indonesia

A STRONG 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's Sulawesi island today, geologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or tsunami warnings issued.

The undersea quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 13 kilometres around 211km east of Manado on Sulawesi at 12.31am (AEST) today, the US Geological Survey said.

There was no warning or advisory posted on the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre website.

Indonesia's Meteorological Service measured the quake at 6.9-magnitude but said it was unlikely to cause a tsunami.
