US ready to use force to free hostages in Iraq: Armitage
PRAGUE (AFP) - The United States is ready to use force to free foreign hostages in Iraq if their governments agree, US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was quoted saying.

"Where we have information where the people are, we are willing to conduct a military operation to try to free them but we must realize that those military operations are sometimes dangerous for the hostages," Armitage told Czech News Agency CTK from Washington.

"It is the kind of thing we want to talk (about) to the government involved to see if they really want us to move forward," he added.

Three Czech journalists were listed as missing on Sunday in Iraq, where about 40 foreign hostages are believed to have been seized since last week.

The kidnapping campaign turned deadly on Thursday when an Italian hostage was executed by militia, shortly before three Japanese hostages were freed.

RICHARD ARMITAGE QUIETLY CONFIRMED
AS DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/politics/armitage_SS.html

FTW - On March 23, after being recommended in a unanimous 18-0 vote by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, former Vietnam-era covert operative and Contra-era figure Richard Armitage was confirmed as Deputy Secretary of State in a voice vote on the Senate Floor. The unchallenged confirmation of a figure who had previously been investigated by President Reagan's Commission on Organized Crime (1984) for alleged links to gambling and prostitution was totally ignored by the major American media

Scandals and Lies

There was no "scandal" when key figures, John Negroponte (complicit in the Honduran Death Squads), Richard Armitage (linked to illegal arms transfers and CIA drug-running operations), Otto Reich (propaganda operative), John Poindexter (convicted of conspiracy {obstruction of inquiries and proceedings, false statements, falsification, destruction and removal of documents}; two counts of obstruction of Congress and two counts of false statements) of the Iran-Contra Affair have re-appeared in official governmental positions by appointment by George Walker Bush, the sitting Republican President, the son of the former Republican President, George Herbert Walker Bush, for whom these men worked.

3. now that's going to work really well (NOT!)
Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defence:

"What is victory? I say victory is persuading the American people and the rest of the world that this is not a quick matter that will be over in a month or a year or even 5 years. It is something we need to do so that we can continue to live in a world with powerful weapons and with people who are willing to use those powerful weapons. And we can do that. That would be a victory in my opinion." Dec. 2001

15. All this hostage taking makes the US military look like buffoons!
Seriously, I think that is the point of the hostage taking. You have a foreign military force crawling the country, and these 'evildoers' are snatching people up right and left.....

I bet Armitage is ready to use a bit of force to shut this down.... and IF a hostage gets axed in the process, no problem. They can turn that around on the 'evil evildoers.'

We got our ass kicked in Fallujah.

And all of Iraq knows it.

The battle moves to Baghdad.

Backgrounder on Russian Fuel Air Explosives ("Vacuum Bombs")

Fuelair/chemical/nukes-our only
advantage now.

Because FAEs cover a wide area, they are prone
to indiscriminate use, especially in or near populated
areas. Since this weapon is very effective against
personnel in fortifications, bunkers, and other
buildings, Russian forces may be tempted to use them in
towns and cities where Chechen fighters are dug in. In
urban settings it will be impossible for the Russians
military to limit the destructive effect of this weapon
to combatants and very difficult for civilians to take shelter
from the FAE's effect
