Chinese express curiosity about Cheney, his role in administration

By Tim Johnson
Knight Ridder Newspapers

SHANGHAI, China - It's said, a Chinese student told Dick Cheney on Thursday, that "you are the most powerful vice president in U.S. history."

The remark underscored high curiosity about Cheney in China, and a perception that he's the power behind the throne in Washington.

Looking a little unsettled, Cheney looked out at an auditorium of students at Fudan University and struggled to answer a query about his role in the Bush administration.

"Well," Cheney began, "that's not a question that I had anticipated."

He launched into a history lesson of how American vice presidents have had few functions except to break tie votes in the Senate and be ready in case calamity struck the president. Even recently, Cheney said, some No. 2's did little except "attend funerals."

16. He's really the Amerikan Caesar Cheney
The little chimp is merely the NeoCon front man for the rest of them.. Wolfie, Rumdumb et al.. ugly, little, perverted men, with all kinds of personal issues.

Wolfie in particular looks like a wimp who used to get his ass kicked and now that he has power, he is out to avenge former humiliations. And to strike out at all tormentors both real and imagined.

17. Apparently our American press isn't.
Cheney is surprised to be asked a question like that because the GOP press would never dare!

14. I am certain that this question was pre-approved by Fudan-Party officials.
Both a question and a message.

BTW - Fudan is in Shanghai, where the people and especially the students, are quite exposed to Western culture.

I LOVE this question from another student:

Liang Wenming, a student of international relations, said a search of the White House Web site showed Cheney had two daughters and three granddaughters.

"Do you often get together with them? Would you suggest them learning Chinese?" Liang asked, to generous clapping from students in the auditorium at Fudan, one of China's top universities.

Care to guess what the message was there?

20. This is NOT the first time
Chinese students have kicked butt and taken names. I'm paraphrasing now, "Government lies are like rat droppings in clear soup. Disgusting and obvious."
