Group gathers 714,000 names to repeal Ohio union law
Source: Akron Beacon Journal

COLUMBUS: Opponents of Ohio's new collective bargaining law say they have collected hundreds of thousands more signatures than needed so voters can weigh in on repealing the measure this fall.

We Are Ohio said Friday it has collected more than 714,000 signatures, which still must be checked by the state's election chief to ensure enough are legitimate.

The group is making a final petition push in the coming weeks. It needs more than 231,000 valid signatures by June 30 to get the issue on the November ballot.

The signatures have to be from at least 44 of the 88 counties.

The law signed by Gov. John Kasich in late March bans public employee strikes and restricts collective bargaining rights for more than 350,000 teachers, police officers, state employees and others.

1. AWESOME!
I hope we can have similar success in Michigan as we repeal, among other things, the 'emergency financial manager' law.

they would have to call in the National Guard to enforce it.

42. We can only hope
The people of rural Ohio were the ones that elected Kasich. I honestly believe they had no clue how much he and his cronies were going to try to change things here. I am hoping the number of signatures will be a wakeup call to the representatives in the statehouse. Strickland (former governor) only lost by a very small margin. He was a populist and came from the rural areas of SE Ohio, which helped him to get elected in the first place. I'm sure there will be big Repub money mounting an opposition to this in the fall.

13. WI OH twins..
Anti union is anti worker. This becomes clear when the safety sections are removed, not necessarily the money issue's. (and the child labor law drawbacks /drawdowns.)

not that I think 17 yr olds are children. 16 for sure 17 eh.... chances are neither are virgin's anymore. But if they get caught they won't be well off , but thats okay somewhere (of course the news never gives the end of the story) there was a 5 yr old facing murder charges... wasn't the babysitters fault since she was mentally handicapped. It would be the parents fault. Not everyone can have the Incredibles..

23. i hope you are right
but the level of vote count manipulations that K-sick and his
powerful friends have going for them might just be staggering

..... for us to win this close we will need to have a landslide in the
vote. Please remember K-sick is without morals and really thinks
that Jesus walked on earth so he could be President someday.

24. He really said that about Jesus
and being prez??? If so, my diagnosis of 'Grandiose Delusional Nut Case' is spot on.

Didn't Jennifer leave the office in good shape....she said she put provisions in that could NOT be challenged for 4 or 5 years.

But, I know....that old saying by Stalin. "It's not who votes, it's who counts them."

I can't imagine policemen, etc. allowing for this level of corruption.

35. Brunner did some very good things but the republicans ..
.... have been very busy with their voter suppression efforts since taking power;
Stricter voter I.D. laws (to stop a crime that does not happen aka people voting
twice) and restricting early voting times.

We must get a huge turn out.

Get people to vote early which is on a paper ballot.

If people are going to vote on election day that should ask for paper ballots.

Get I.D.s to all people who need them and will turn out to vote.

Get boots on the ground and observers @ the polls to monitor election day actions.

Find away to get around the 10s of millions of dollars that will be spent by the Koch Brothers, A.L.E.C., the Chamber of Commerce,
and the republicans on pro SB 5 ads that will be nothing more than lies.

p.s. John Kasich didn't say that about Jesus wanting him to be President but I have known him for years and I am sure that is
what he thinks in his heart.

36. We will have a
massive GOTV campaign. I truly have faith in the public employees organizational skills. Plus I have faith in the working people of Ohio. People don't go into the careers of teaching, firefighting, and police work to get rich...they do it because they want to be of help to their fellow citizens.

I think most people in this state realize that. And the small minority who don't get it...well, someday they'll find themselves in need.

But I do understand the unbelievable sums of $$$$ that will be thrown at the issue by Koch, etc. We need moles in these fascist organizations. Seriously. Any thoughts on that?

41. no need for moles "they" are upfront about what ....
.... they want to do and who they are working for.

The important thing is to make people understand that the pro SB 5 ads will be lies and that
the game plan is to protect the rich and fuck the middle class all the time to about families,
God, Country, the free market, and union thugs.

The American Legislative Exchange Council has it all there in black and white.

BTW people might want to bring up the fact that John Kasich's dad worked a union job
as a letter carrier in McKees Rocks, PA as John was growing up and SB 5 is just K-sick
working out his "daddy issues."

It's amazing. People practically beg to sign, no 'selling' necessary.

I didn't think Ohioans could hate a governor more than Taft, but this new oligarch repuke puts him to shame.
