Iran is target of new U.S. sanctions
Source: The Washington Post

The Obama administration on Thursday imposed new sanctions against Iran’s largest air carrier, accusing it of aiding government organizations that support international terrorism and nuclear proliferation.

The new measures announced by the Treasury Department allege links between Iran Air, the country’s national airline, and illegal weapons shipments to terrorist groups in Syria, and also to the transport of high-tech parts for Iran’s advanced missiles and nuclear programs.

The sanctions restrict U.S. firms from conducting business with the airline in the United States or overseas. Also targeted for sanctions was Tidewater Middle East Co., a major port operator in Iran.

U.S. officials said the measures were indirectly aimed at Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, whose leaders are alleged to dominate the country’s illicit trade in weapons parts and technology. A statement attributed to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the United States would seek to “sharpen the choice for Iran’s leaders to abandon their dangerous course.”

1. What's new?
Iran is always a target for something, although they signed the NPT. They have not attacked another country!
How many countries have we attacked lately? We're going to "sharpen the choice for Iran's leaders"........
Since when do we have the authority to tell another country who their leaders can be??? Can we possibly
get more arrogant? Hillary and Timothy now get to tell other countries what to do?? What the hell?

4. Iran's last election was disputed
and there was believed to be irregularities as 14 million ballots were missing.

If Iran wanted to honor the signing of the NPT they would allow inspectors into the country. Also Iran has taken aggressive action toward several neighboring countries including UAE.

Keep in mind this is a country that treats its citizens brutally.

Sanctions will likely never be enough for either Iran or North Korea, it is going to take something happening inside the country for change to occur.

3. That's a familiar tactic and one that's even easier for the "press" ...
... as they can just dig up their old articles and replace the "q" with a "n".

Don't you just love the way that it is a banker who states that it is the plan
of the United States to interfere with the domestic business of an independent
sovereign country?
