USA TodayPresident Obama has set a goal of collecting $60 million for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee for the fundraising quarter that ends in six days, a campaign source said today.
The fundraising target comes as Obama's campaign sends out a slew of fundraising pitches to supporters, offering everything from a private dinner with the president to campaign merchandise. Obama has appeared at more than two dozen fundraisers in the past three months, including three Thursday night in New York City to collect money for his re-election and the national party.

Even so, a goal of $60 million shared with the party appears modest for the president, who raised a whopping $58.6 million during the first six months of his campaign in 2007 and went on to shatter fundraising records.
The president and his Republican rivals have gotten off to a slower start this time around. This year, Obama kicked off his campaign April 4, compared with Feb. 10, 2007, in the last election.
