OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Planned Parenthood affiliate that covers Iowa and Nebraska has announced plans to merge with one that runs health clinics in Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

Under the merger expected to be complete by Jan. 1, the expanded affiliate would have about 30 clinics in the four states.

"Our communities deserve access to affordable quality health care," said Jill June, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, which covers Iowa and Nebraska. "The merger will allow us to expand our service offerings to more people in need of care."

The new services would include adoption, education programs and care for men and for lesbian, gay and transgendered people.

2. Wonder why OK and AK?
Seems kind of out of the way geographically. But if it serves the people better, more power to them.

PP is the only group I can afford to donate $ to anymore.

3. PP is under attack right now, and expansion is good news!
Especially in the rural areas, where there are fewer providers. PP is under attack and some states like VA and IN are trying to put them out of business by regulation. Perhaps, by expanding into other states, they can offer services across state lines where needed more efficiently and humanely to woman who would be abandoned otherwise, but the repug ideologies that are trying to stop abortion any which way they can. After all, this SCOTUS cannot be trusted to protect women's rights, so it would not be good to appeal any egregious violations of women's health care choices up wards at this time in our nation's history.
