North Korea issues threat to South amid joint talks
Source: BBC

Pyongyang said southern soldiers had erected signs on the border slandering the North's "army, system and dignity".

It said unspecified military measures would continue "mercilessly" until the South apologises and removes the signs.

As officials headed to the talks, North Korea issued its threat to the South in the state-run media.

The signs erected near the border, it said, were "little short of a declaration of war".

they are going to mercilessly attack the south and the strongest military in the world.

7. Don't diss the North Korean People's Army, township
I'm serious. Pyongyang totally screws the North Korean civilians, but they put a LOT of money into the military. The best estimates, as taken from North Korean officers who have defected to South Korea (for some reason a LOT of logistics officers in the NKPA decide they can't handle Pyongyang's bullshit anymore and swim the Han in the middle of the night), is the NKPA could wage continuous war for one year. They have stockpiled enough canned rice, canned kimchi, fuel, ammo, uniforms, small arms and vehicles to fight like hell for a year. Further, the US rates the NKPA as being able to march farther and faster with less logistical support than any army in the world. The North Korean civilian economy is a disaster, but their military is very good.

I would NOT want the United States to go up against them. Under normal circumstances we'd win; after 10 years of fighting in the desert, I'm not so sure anymore.

8. I guess there is only one way to find out...
but I hope we don't ever find out.

I made the fuel comment after watching an interview with a former military officer. He said that as he was defecting with a group via boat, they noticed the naval ships couldn't catch them. Then they noticed the navy ships were trying to sail...they didn't have teh fuel to go after the defectors.

Your sources may actually be correct; I haven't dealt that intesnly with the info. But my guess is the army would NOT fight for a year and would defect.

Hell, just put up a couple of gas grills and make some burgers, set up some fans and blow the aroma by the army. They will surrender in no time.

9. Any war with North Korea would be over relatively quickly.
Their troops are starving, and all of their military equipment is of 50's/60's vintage. They would get whole handedly stomped in a war with the ROK/US now.

12. I predict otherwise.
I think there would be many US and ROK deaths over an extended period.

15. People predicted the same in Iraq
the first time around.

They had more modern equipment than the North Korean army.

14. And the Army is actually starving.
Famine and deaths to starvation has returned to NK. In the 1990s they lost 10% of their population to starvation. Looks like they are getting ready to have another population reduction.

11. Of course.
And anything less than complete praise for the Deity on Earth, coupled with self-denigration and abasement, is a vile and loathsome insult of heinousness and atrociousnessicificationalism for the Deity Himself. Itself. Herself.

Aw, crap. Now it's the firing squad for me.
