FEC allows Colbert to form ‘super PAC’ for 2012 elections
Source: Washington Post

Stephen Colbert learned an important lesson Thursday at the Federal Election Commission: Even a gifted comedian can’t make campaign-finance law funny.

In a meeting devoid of anything beyond a gentle chuckle, the FEC decided that Colbert could go ahead with his plans to form a self-titled “super PAC” that could raise and spend unlimited money on the 2012 elections.

But the panel also concluded that the television host’s employer, Viacom Corp., would have to report any help it gives to Colbert for political activities outside the “Colbert Report” show.

The request was part of a long-running satire by Colbert poking fun at loosened campaign finance rules. But Colbert himself said very little during the hearing, leaving most of the talking up to his attorney, Trevor Potter, and to FEC commissioners.

7. Now for the best ad companies money can buy
to challenge the bastards on their own playing field.

But, I did just remember that many stations refused to run MoveOn ads, so they may find a work around.

13. I envy Colbert
Watch him raise a bloody fortune, and then come out with convoluted distortion of Fox "logic" to determine,
much to his "astonishment," that the most conservative candidate (even if the Republicans nominate Herman Cain)
is Barack Obama, and that the Democrats are, "astonishingly," the least "libbrul" party, so he has to endorse
Obama for re-election, even though finding the Republican candidate to be far more liberal candidate is a manoeuver
worthy of a circus contortionist. I trust Colbert to find a way, though. Wanna bet he persuades more than 5% of the
Foxsuckers who haven't yet figured out that he's mocking them to vote for Obama?

He's going to have more fun than a six year old on is first visit to Disneyland (pretty much a valid equivalent
to the teabagger freshmen in the House and Senate).

32. Good point. He makes me laugh out loud every time I watch him.
And believe me, I can use the laughs!

This is an education for me as well. Kinda of a 'superpac for dummies', which I suspect is his mission.

I love Steven!
