2. With time served and gain time, Judge estimates she will be out in a few weeks
He clearly imposed the sentence in order to keep her safe in jail for a few weeks until tempers cool off.

She'll be out by Labor Day.

4. Hangin' judge
Sentencing to the maximum, consecutive terms, for "lying to a cop"? What bullshit.

"Officer, I didn't know I was speeding"
Bang, one year.

"I didn't see the 'No Turn On Red' sign"
Oops, another year.

"I'm sure I put money in the meter. It must be broken"
That'll cost you a year.

I'd be in jail for a long time.

:hi:

5. Speeding, red light, meter? How is any of that relevant to her case?
Do you even know what these charged are for? Guess not, otherwise you'd have actually mentioned them.

You actually believe that lying to the police about a parking meter is the same as lying in a murder trial? Are you missing your brain or what?

6. Um, no.
Her lies cost the state/county a fortune in investigative time and resources chasing one lie after another and one non-existent person after another. Your joke lies wouldn't have cost anyone a dime. Surely you can see the difference.

She will be assessed those fees once calculated, per the court, and potentially the costs to prosecute the case as well.

Just fine by me. If they figure they spent $3mm investigating this case, then let them attach that to her future earnings and recoup the money from her book/movie deals for the taxpayers of Orange County.

13. Assess the cost of investigation? Good luck with that.
She's been fined $4k. Orange County wants more? They can make up some big numbers, but good luck collecting, I don't think she has the assets to cover it.

If Orange County wants a refund, they should collect from the prosecutors. There's a group that wasted a bunch of money trying to create a capital murder-1 case out of an unknown cause of death.

18. CNN was reporting it.
I didn't watch, but saw this on their live blog about the sentencing: "(Judge) Perry also said that the court will work to calculate the cost of the investigation into Caylee Anthony's disappearance and what amount of that Casey Anthony might have to pay."

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/07/casey-anthony-to-be-sentenced-thursday/?hpt=hp_t1

They can attach it to all future earnings so no matter who she sells her story to, they recover a chunk of cash for the taxpayers.

Agree on the Prosecution overcharging the crimes. If you are going to bring the charges, you need to be damn sure you can prove them. They charged her with M1 months before the skeletal remains were even found. They could have always upped the ante once the investigation was near complete. The fact they doubled down when a motion was introduced at trial to drop the death penalty just screams of arrogance.

21. Under Florida law she can be assessed the cost of the investigation
do to her lies she was convicted of. A payment plan will be figured and if she fails to make payments she goes to jail. Luck has nothing to do with it.

27. EXACTLY!! The PROSECUTION is the entity to...
blame for the cost of this entire case! They were more interested in bringing murder charges & acting as the HERO rather than letting the investigation continue...Or as the defense said looking into the idea this was an accidental death that spiraled out of control. Either way the prosecution is to blame for the cost!!

this is a legitimate application if there ever was one. Implicating another innocent person for a non-existent kidnapping is a BS move if there ever was one. If this isn't correct application would there ever be a correct application in your opinion?

8. It's probably best for her safety that she stays in jail a few more weeks.
She is a hated woman right now. Give the case a few weeks to breathe, and tensions may calm down. Her defense has to fear for her safety, and I'm sure they will make that known.

25. Agreed. Nice play here by the judge
I gather that there usually is no jail time at all for misdemeanor lying, so I agree that this looks like an effort to just quiet things down until she is released in a couple of weeks.

It must have been done with agreement of her lawyer not to demand her immediate release. By the time she is released in a couple of weeks, the news turbine machine will have moved on (as in: hey, look, it's Roger Clemens on trial now!)

20. The debt ceiling issue is boring, frankly
A mother (who looked kind of guilty) beating charges of murdering her 2 year old is not. I'm not sure there's any lesson here. Lots of people just aren't very interested in politics. Rather than lament the current state of awareness of public affairs, perhaps it's better too look how far people have come in just a few centuries. Not so long ago, many people around the world were illiterate, spoke a local dialect, and had little conception of the world outside of their home region. Change happens very, very slowly, but it does happen.

19. My feelings about Casey are difficult to understand right now.
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 10:01 AM by closeupready
I absolutely hated her prior to the trial, in light of the media coverage.

Then it took the jury only, what, ten hours to come to a unanimous not guilty verdict.

Now, I find myself feeling a little sympathetic to Casey, and I don't want to be, since I believe her neglect led to Caylee's death, but my feelings aren't something I can control.

The US media is so full of shit, this is yet the latest example.

26. Casey Anthony will be Released July 13 (next Wednesday)
Clearly, the judge knew that this was the approximate timeline given the sentence, time served, and gain time. What he is really doing is making sure that Ms. Anthony, the authorities, and the community is prepared for her release, and particularly to assure her safety.

Porn King TERMINATES XXX Offer to Casey Anthony

7/6/2011 2:25 PM PDT by TMZ Staff

------------------

The general porn-watching public wants "nothing to do" with Casey Anthony ... so says XXX kingpin Steve Hirsch ... who has officially WITHDRAWN his porno offer to the exonerated 25-year-old.

Hirsch -- who reached out to Anthony's lawyer yesterday in the hopes of landing a deal -- has now reversed course ... telling TMZ, "It has become obvious to us that Vivid fans, and people in general, want nothing to do with her and that includes a XXX movie."

Hirsch explains, "We were ready to make an offer to Casey to star in one of our feature films. It's clear to me now, however, that there has been an overwhelmingly negative response to our offer and so we've decided to withdraw it."

Now I'm not saying you're a sister-killing serial killer who has a thing for mass murderers like Karlie baby, but - you won't exactly be safe walking around Orlando. Orlando is a pretty crazy place, as I'm sure you know.
