GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A businessman accused of shooting his wife as she slept and dumping her body in the trash was convicted Friday of murder. A judge sentenced Michael Blagg to life in prison without parole after the jury conviction. His eyes fell and his head slumped forward as the verdict was read.
"I can tell you, your honor, that I am innocent of these charges," he said. "I have nothing more to say."
Blagg reported his wife and their 6-year-old daughter missing in November 2001 and later went on television to plead for help finding them.
Authorities said Jennifer Blagg was seeking a divorce because Blagg had abused her. Her body was found in a landfill seven months after she vanished, a bullet in her skull. Their daughter, Abby, is missing and presumed dead.
