Iraq War More Serious Than Vietnam-EU's Patten
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040417/wl_nm/eu_iraq_vietnam_dc&cid=574&ncid=1480

TULLAMORE, Ireland (Reuters) - The conflict in Iraq (news - web sites) is "much more serious" than the war in Vietnam and any comparison between the two is misplaced, the European Union (news - web sites)'s external relations commissioner said on Saturday.

"The comparison... that Iraq could become as difficult an issue as Vietnam is misplaced, because I think it is arguably much more serious," Chris Patten told a news conference after an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland.

"If things go wrong in Iraq we will be living with the consequences for a very, very long time," he added.

2. The implications *are* horrendous
and yes, our news is being sanitized. It's a very bad situation on the brink of being a catastrophe.

3. I never doubted that matters are far worse there,...
,...than what is being released. After all, we have one of the most secretive and manipulative leaderships EVER!!!

4. I do agree that the potential consequences
are even more serious than Vietnam. And that we the people don't know half of what is actually happening in Iraq. That...is a scary thought.

10. Nobody knows the full story on Iraq
The combatants, their supporters, the people on the ground, the intelligence services, the journalists...too many things going on, too many players...

The events in other parts of the world will likely affect what happens on the ground in Iraq much more than they did in Vietnam.
This is more than a post-colonial imperialist proxy war; this is the war for The Prize.

6. Vietnam did not trigger global
terrorism. The US has succeeded in unifying radical Islamic groups to such a extent that no country in the world remotely associating itself with US interests can now be safe.

US invovlement in Iraq is systemtically bankrupting this country to the point it will ultimately impact the economies of a whole lot of other countries in the world.

This is a whole lot worse than Vietnam.

9. The PNACers anticipated another world war when they put this plan
into action. They didn't care whether or not it would be worse than Vietnam.

12. Global Terrorism
Georgie has succeeded in opening Pandora's Box! Knowledge of The Middle East by our Leaders, both civilian and military have been sorely lacking although they have known for decades that it could be a war just waiting to happen. We have a Military Language school that did not or now have any Arabian linguists, we have Military schools that are not educating on the history and culture of the ME. Georgie has failed at everything he has ever done and he never had to clean up his messes. This time he has not only failed the TEXAS National Guard, the Texans who lost their land for a sports arena, and the investors of Arbusto, he has the blood of thousands of Americans and Iraqi's on his hands. How is it possible that America could allow the rich idiot son of a former President so much power. God help us all.

7. The military commanders are ready to let the sword fall on Fallujah
The threats that have become public are more than finding the perpetrators of the mutilation of the mercenary soldiers' corpses; this is a rebellion now and an affront to the new Powers that Be in Iraq.

For the rift between Occupier and Occupied to have become so complete implies that the shit is piled up neck-high.

11. And Vietnam was not a "religious" war.
How many religious Muslims are there and how many countries do they line in?
