They gathered under a banner proclaiming: "Iraq for the Iraqis".
Protester Andrew Burgin of the Stop the War Coalition, which helped organise the demonstration, said: "We are calling for an immediate withdrawal of foreign troops in Iraq."
Blair, fresh from talks with U.S. President George W. Bush, said in a BBC radio interview that he was committed to a planned U.S. handover of power to Iraqis on June 30 and the "vast majority" of Iraqis wanted democracy.
