In Iowa, Hispanics upset with Obama, lack other choices
Source: Reuters

Back in 2008, when Barack Obama was fighting for the Democratic presidential nomination, local Hispanics like Jose Zacarias were eager foot soldiers for him in this critical battleground state.

Encouraged by Obama's promise to pursue comprehensive immigration reform, Zacarias hosted parties to raise money for the candidate and helped register new voters in the Hispanic community.

When election day arrived, Zacarias and other Hispanics helped get out the Democratic vote.

Those efforts paid off, aiding Obama in winning Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses in January 2008 -- a victory that transformed his campaign -- and to go on to capture the state's seven electoral votes in the November 2008 general election that swept him into the White House.

But three years later, as Obama seeks re-election, conversations with Hispanics voters here reveal a deep disappointment with the president, especially on immigration.

2. Everywhere in the USA - we all lack other choices
and we desperately need another choice - all we have are corporate lap dogs to choose from - and that is NOT a true choice at all!

5. You do have another choice
www.TansyGold2012.blogspot.com

But you have to choose to make that choice. You can, if you like, do nothing but whine. Or you can do something else.

10. Great idea. Although I'm hoping we get a contender who
will challenge Obama more actively in the media and travel to talk to people about Democratic alternatives to Obama.

4. Obama can't make immigration reforms on his own
Hispanics need to band together to elect congressmen to support the reform. Obama would undoubtedly sign a bill supporting immigrants if it ever reached him.

7. These people don't get it.

The issue isn't whether or not Obama is the best when it comes to immigration issues for hispanics. The issue is will he be the best among the available 2 choices for President in 2012.

Do they want the GOP making immigration law? Or nominations to the Supreme court?

Like it or not, they better be with the President in 2012. And most likely they probably will, once they see what the alternative is.

13. Or nominations to the Supreme court?
Pew Hispanic Center shows that 65 percent of first-generation U.S. Hispanics believe abortion should be illegal.

so maybe

"Do they want the GOP making immigration law? maybe that too

Bush was in the immigration debate not avoiding it There are few issues bigger than immigration reform, when it comes to rifts within the GOP. Dont forget it can benefit GOP masters too

So depends on who is running

ANyway I think it is the same for many as far as why Obama goes down in the polls Hispanic or not

The economy = unemplymnt/jobs, real estate, business, savings, loans etc.

"It's the economy, stupid" ( not talking about you a5a)-just the phrase

Obama has deported more latinos including citizens than any other president. 60% of the deportees are none criminals with roots and family in the US.

So how latinos can vote for something they already try in pass elections?

14. It isn't just voting for President that is important.
It is also about electing US Senators, US Representatives, and those in state offices. Everyone needs to help out in electing those that will keep Obama on the right track. It makes it more difficult if the President has to deal with a Republican House and/or Senate.

19. We're seeing LOTS of this. . . .
I'm disappointed too, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I forget about how bad the Repigs are. I'll be out for Obama with BELLS on just to prevent that from happening. Obama has my FULL support. I may not be wild about Obama, but no Republican will ever know it, as I will do everything in my power to ensure that Obama is reelected.
