Argentina Didn't Fall on Its Own
Wall Street Pushed Debt Till the Last

By Paul Blustein
Washington Post Staff Writer

BUENOS AIRES -- Ah, the memories: Feasting on slabs of tender Argentine steak. Skiing at a resort overlooking a shimmering lake in the Andes. And late-night outings to a "gentlemen's club" in a posh Buenos Aires neighborhood.

Such diversions awaited the investment bankers, brokers and money managers who flocked to Argentina in the late 1990s. In those days, Wall Street firms touted Argentina as one of the world's hottest economies as they raked in fat fees for marketing the country's stocks and bonds.

Thus were sown the seeds of one of the most spectacular economic collapses in modern history, a debacle in which Wall Street played a major role.

1. America, the poisonous nation.
And what did it do for us? Ensure our survival? Or prop up those within us who will destroy us as well?

The Germans had to face their evil.

When will we?

2. I just hope they give Greg Palast credit
for breaking this story. Anybody who's read his book saw the headline and said, "No shit- how come they didn't report this 2 years ago?"

6. Palast, if memory serves me, said the USA is next
That the economic meat grinder would soon enough chew up the US economy intentionally, and that our fate would in due time mirror the fate of Argentina.

and charges? Or will Bush impose his Iraq style justice on the Financial CEOs? I want to see their names not just Wall Street fed them! But then, we'd see more 'suicides' like Kelly and Baxter and who know how many other lower level cronies.

Also, in these Wall Street settlements, why are the fines kept by the Fed. Gov and not given back to the investors who were lied to by their brokers?

Take a look at the pic on this story; Saddam had been running Iraq better than Argentina's 'Democracy' even with 10 years of U.S. and world sanctions on Iraq. Let's see a story on that Paul Blustein!
