'We paid legal fees for hackers': Sensational admission by Murdochs as Rupert insists grilling by MPs is his 'most humble day'

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Rupert Murdoch’s son today sensationally admitted that News International had been paying the legal fees of the phone hacking journalist Clive Goodman and private detective Glenn Mulcaire.

=snip=

In another incident, where Mr Murdoch seemed unaware of many aspects of his businesses, he did not to know two controversial former News of the World journalists.

When he was asked about the allegations that former News of the World chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck had blackmailed Formula 1 boss Max Mosley in 2008, Murdoch said he had ‘never heard’ of Thurlbeck, and said he knew nothing about the case.

However, at the time of the investigation by Thurlbeck, which revealed that married Mr Mosley had paid five prostitutes to take part in sado-masochistic orgies, Mr Murdoch described his work as ‘outstanding journalism written by great journalists’.

4. The corporate form: in a big corporation with many irons in the fire,
no person can really know what is going on at every level. It is impossible.

A corporation is more like a robot in some ways than like a human organization.

Rupert Murdoch did not sign checks to people. In fact, he may not have written a lot of things that the corporation disseminated under his signature or as his words.

The corporate form just invites corruption. Murdoch was the Godfather. That was his role. So of course now he has plausible denial. It's built into the corporate form.

5. News international paid legal fees of phone hackers

News international paid legal fees of phone hackers
News International made payments to phone hackers Clive Goodman and Glenn Mulcaire after they were convicted of the crime, James Murdoch admitted to MPs.

Goodman, former royal editor at the News of the World, and private investigator Mulcaire, were both jailed in 2007 over royal phone taps.

Mr Murdoch insisted he had been "very surprised" to find that payments had been made towards the legal fees of the pair, but was told it was "customary" and admitted the payments could even be continuing.
During the hotly-anticipated Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee session, Conservative Philip Davies questioned how Goodman would have been able to hire John Kelsey-Fry, described as one of the most expensive lawyers in Britain and the "go-to" legal man for celebrities.

Mr Davies said it would lead "most people to suspect" that his fees were being paid for by News International.

7. Isn't that what they should be doing?
The company put them up to it, so the company should be there for them when they need legal representation.

10. The most likely reason a corporation would do that is because they
ordered them to do it?
