Dick Durbin: Gang of Six debt deal will not pass before August 2
Source: The State Column

Key Senate Democrats responded Tuesday to a proposed plan aimed at raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit, warning it will not pass Congress before an August 2 deadline.

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin warned Tuesday that a proposal put forth by the budget group has yet to be crafted and would requires weeks of political maneuvering before a vote could be held.

“The Gang of Six plan has not been drafted nor has it been scored by the Congressional Budget Office — it’s not ready for prime time,” Mr. Durbin said. “But as a concept, I think we have the starting concepts together, and that’s what we presented today.”

7. He Should Be Denouncing It, Ma'am: It is Not Enough It May Not Happen
Small state cretins like Conrad, and southerners like Warner are one thing; one expects pusillanimity from such: Mr. Durbin is a Senator from Illinois, and had damned well better act like one..

8. Why denounce it outright when you want to keep them (Republicans) occupied?

9. People Have To Know Where You Stand, Ma'am
This plan is nothing but one more attempt to finalize the looting of the Social Security Trust Fund, and make the regressive pay-roll tax into the principal funding mechanism for spending on war, and giveaways to big business.

13. Agreed
How Obama can think he can sell this is beyond me.

No mention of the wars, no mention of the 900 bases all over the place, no mention of nafta , no mention of the fraud at the pentagon, etc.

Screw this crap.

3. Durbin looking to spend time in jail
Power corrupts absolutely. So it will come to pass that the Dems will need to spend more time in the basement or plantation as Hillary referred to it. And the war profiteers and criminals on Wall St will rejoice.

I didn't hear that exact quoted line. The closest is:

"And so, for us to see Democratic senators acknowledge that we’ve got to deal with our long-term debt problems that arise out of our
various entitlement programs, and for Republican senators to acknowledge that revenues will have to be part of a balanced package that
makes sure that nobody is disproportionately hurt from us making progress on the debt and deficits I think is a very significant step."

17. so it sounds like the McConnel deal is the only deal possible now given the time constraints.
or perhaps maybe the nuclear option where Obama admin simply ignores the debt ceiling and continues business as usual.

18. It does sound like the Reid-McConnell deal is the only one that can be completed by Aug. 2.
But they are still working on that deal too and may incorporate some things from the 'gang of 6' plan:
