West Glacier residents pack bags for home
By SHERRY DEVLIN of the Missoulian

A solid barrier of black between them and the wildfire that put their lives at risk, residents of West Glacier, Lake Five and Blankenship Road can move back home Sunday.

At 6 a.m., fire incident commanders and the Flathead County sheriff will lift a mandatory evacuation order for communities on the western edge of Glacier National Park after a 10-day tug of war with the Robert fire.

In recent days, that effort focused on burning enough ground between the communities and the flames to stop any run the fire might make. The blackened barrier now covers 12 miles and is nearly a half-mile wide.
