Bomb threat at office of tax reformer Norquist
Source: The Hill

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department responded to a bomb threat Monday morning at the office of conservative activist Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Norquist’s office received a bomb threat via telephone and contacted police at around 9 a.m. Monday, according to Officer A. Clay, a spokesman for the department.

Authorities responded to the office, located at 722 12th St. NW, and the threat was subsequently cleared.

“The police are conducting an investigation” into the matter, wrote John Kartch, director of communications for Americans for Tax Reform, in an email to The Hill.

I find myself wondering if this is connected to his recent statement regarding letting the Bush tax cuts expire not falling under their pledge?

Link to his statement for those who may have missed it: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/59774.html

33. Really! What good is a bomb "threat?" It's only good for
generating some publicity for idiots and true believers. If a real radical had him in their sights, it would have been more than a threat. It's probably best not to give people ideas like this.

Why would Norquist's office depend upon a government service like the police? Wouldn't he want to drown the police department in a bathtub rather than have it investigate a bomb at his office?

29. I'd call the problem group narcissism if the incident really happened and it wasn't a false-flag op
A lot of people on this forum are convinced that it's not possible for someone of the "progressive" mindset to feel so strongly about things that he or she could rationalize an act or threat of violence.

I think that kind of hubris - that our philosophy is so pure as to make it impossible for someone to take it too far - is the first step down a very slippery slope.

40. I am in full agreement about the suspiciousness of the timing, and of the character of the "victim"
Now Fox pundits, instead of being on the defence about right wing terrorism, can offer this false equivalency bullshit about how both sides do it.

In recent history there is a huge disparity in the frequency with which the respective "sides" engage in such bad behavior. But that has not always been the case, it may not be that way in the future, and such comparisons are not very useful in determining what happened in a single incident.

School is out for summer in many places. The alleged threat may simply have been a teenage prank.

53. Err...
Actually looking at the situation out of context lends it a credibility that it hasn't earned. In fact if we ignore the context of continual false equivalency it leads to all sorts of nonsensical situations where the media provides equal coverage at an anti war protest of 8,000 marchers to a group of 30 pro war counter protesters. False equivalency allows people to honestly attempt to compare Michael Moore to Anne Coulter or PBS to Fox News.

If a right winger gets blown up and then If it really was a left winger then, and only then will I abandon my suspicion and my accusation of the right trying to play the equivalency game.

Was a bomb found? Did they give a reason?

I presume the assumption is that a left winger is responsible. That would be a mistake. A conservative target following the hate-laced conservative christian rampage in Norway seems too convenient by far. By all means, get to the bottom of this and charge the party that called in the bomb threat with an act of terror. But let's wait and let this play out before jumping to conclusions.
