FBI works new lead in D.B. Cooper hijacking case
Source: CNN

Seattle (CNN) -- It's been nearly four decades since a man calling himself Dan Cooper jumped out the back of Northwest Orient Flight 305, somewhere between Seattle and Reno, Nevada, carrying a parachute and some $200,000 in pilfered money.

It's not known where Cooper landed, or if he even survived the jump. But the case lives on in infamy, what the FBI calls "one of the great unsolved mysteries" in the agency's history.

The FBI "reignited" the case in 2007, releasing for the first time a number of pictures and information on the case. Now, agents are working a new lead and looking at a new suspect in the 1971 hijacking.

The tip, which came from a member of law enforcement, is not expected to be "a big break in the investigation," Ayn Sandalo Dietrich, an FBI spokeswoman in Seattle, told CNN on Sunday.

4. I can't think of a better way to spend the tax payers money, then paying investigators to continue
looking at this case. What a waste of time and money. A good story however, to bring up every now and then as a distraction from reality though. Just tack those investigative fees on to the deficit, not to worry, more cuts to the poor and middle class can help to pay for almost anything these days. And while were at it, why not make those Bush tax cuts for the rich and powerful permanent just for the hell of it, but I digress.

"It's been nearly four decades..."

Yes, yes it has. Now, who gives a fat rat's ass about D. B. Cooper? Is there no Statute of Limitations on making the FBI look like a bunch of goobs?

19. It is unconscionable for the FBI to squander resources and press on this case.

8. I didn't even know the case was still open...
Even if Cooper wasn't killed by the fall, old age would have gotten him before now?

9. Exactly.
And really the best way to help determine suspects is to run two scenarios. Dead or alive. If he didn't survive the jump then check the missing persons and weed them out. Otherwise, forget about it.

10. I know where D.B. Cooper is...
I saw him working in a Burger King in Kalamazoo, Michigan, along side Elvis.

Honest, I did.

12. Highly likely since....
He extorted only $200,000. In today's economy, that's nothing and, unless he invested it somehow, he'd be flat broke by now.

13. I'm pretty sure he was flat broke back then too.
Have you seen what happens to a body when it hits the ground after reaching terminal velocity? Could've buried him in tupperware.

18. Not awesome at all, because I doubt any president...
...since Nixon or Ford was actively involved in trying to solve the case. The FBI is own it's own in this one, and 40 years too late, even if they solve it.

15. $200,000, even adjusted for inflation,
is a rounding error on the bonus checks of the Banksters who robbed the entire nation of about a trillion dollars.

$200,000 is the kind of money that Rupert Murdoch keeps in a cookie jar to buy off the chief of Scotland Yard, or the odd cabinet minister, or two.

17. Isn't there a statute of limitations on everything except murder?
Anyway, I still believe the main suspect is Kenneth Christiansen.
