WisDems To File Complaint Against Koch Brothers/AFP Dirty Tricks
Source: Wisconsin Democratic Party

Call on Six Republican Recall Senators to Denounce Tactic

MADISON-The Democratic Party of Wisconsin on Tuesday will file a complaint seeking the immediate end to a Koch Brothers-funded scheme to suppress Democratic votes in upcoming recall elections and called on six recall Republican senators to denounce the tactic.

The corporate front group Americans For Prosperity has in at least two recall districts reportedly been distributing absentee ballots with return instructions that would render the votes ineligible.

See attached complaint here.

"Scott Walker has sought the help of the corporate front group "Americans For Prosperity," and here they come with dirty tricks clearly meant to meddle in our elections and suppress votes against the Koch Brothers' agenda," Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday. "Wisconsin's election authorities must stop the black hand of the corporate special interests and their front groups who are trying to strangle democracy in our state and support the six Republican senators now facing recall.

These six Republicans must immediately denounce the AFP scheme or it will signal to the public that they endorse the suppression of Wisconsin votes."

...Furthermore, a close look at the mailer shows a continuation of irregularities that have already involved conservative groups and absentee ballots in the state.

The mailing address for the applications is listed as "Absentee Ballot Application Processing Center, P.O. Box 1327, Madison WI 53701-1327." A Google search shows that this address is not any sort of government office, but has been used by the conservative group Wisconsin Family Action.

In addition, Wisconsin Right To Life previously used the same address for absentee ballot application letters and phone calls that were sent out shortly before the July 12 Democratic primaries, but after the official deadlines for the applications. The group responded to criticism, saying the phone calls were intended to be for the general elections in August.

40. It's funny. Here New Hampshire, the Republicans are all worried about voter ID and vote fraud.
But it turns out that the son of the arch-Republican/
Libertarian Speaker of the House just got caught being
registered simultaneously in NH and Maine.

It seems he voted in NH while he was simultaneously
running for office in Maine.

Yeah, there's vote fraud all right, and I'll bet I know which
party is doing more of it! I wish somebody would cross-
check all the voter registration rolls between NH and Florida;
I'll bet you'd find lots of Republican "snowbirds" voting in
both states!

55. oh sure tons of voter fraud..
this comes across as election fraud. and we all know voter fraud is rare and when it's committed it's usually from the right anyway (hello ann coulter)

absentee should have some sort of recognizeable proof that it's the real thing. ie like a dollar bill. otherwise it would be an illegal copy of one. But come on this is Scott Walkers fan base. They committed high crimes by locking up the capitol.

Koch-backed group's fake eviction notices rile up Detroit
By Stephanie Condon

Residents in a Detroit neighborhood received a scare this week when they found what appeared to be eviction notices on their doors. The flyers, however, turned out to be political pamphlets in opposition to the construction of a controversial new bridge.

The fake eviction notices were posted by a local chapter of Americans for Prosperity, the conservative political advocacy group backed by Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who run Koch Industries and are longtime libertarians. Local political leaders and columnists are condemning the group for scaring residents -- whose homes sit in the epicenter of the nation's foreclosure crisis -- while refusing to disclose which of its corporate backers are funding the flyers.

At the center of the flyer in question, in large print, reads: "Eviction Notice." In medium print, the top of the flyer reads, "This property is subject to seizure by the Michigan Department of Transportation." Only in small print does the flyer say the property in question could be seized if legislation approving the bridge is passed.

35. That's a good question.
Unfortunately, the GAB is where all this legal shit has to start in Wisconsin. Even if the GAB decides AFP were intentionally misleading, what're the consequences.

This is a clear case, just like the Right to Life shitheads making those calls about absentee ballots the 2-4 days before the primary election, telling people they didn't have to go to the polls. There should be some serious consequences for both these organizations.

I'm definitely intrigued by the mail fraud question, though. I wonder if the WisDems have thought about it from that angle. I'd love to see the USPS try to argue that a vote has no tangible value.

50. You live in Wisconsin, so your voice would carry more
than mine.

Maybe you can get in touch with this group and suggest that they look at the mail fraud angle. A vote does indeed have tangible value. It has financial value, or the Kochheads would not be doing all this cheating. We know it has tangible value to the people who are losing their benefits and pensions, to the people who cannot find jobs, because the greedy are sitting on all their money.

I hope they give this a shot.

36. Calling on Republicans to play nice?
I hope the Dems aren't about to file a complaint with the same authority responsible for the supreme court recount fiasco. Who but stooges controlled by Walker could be legally charged with investigating this? The Democrats need to hit the media nationally and the streets locally. They need to beat their drums and blow their whistles until election day so no one can forget that the fix is in again. If they were real clever they'd get in touch with Jimmy Carter and see about finding some international monitors. They also should seek a criminal investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department and make it loudly. That is exactly what the scumbugs would do.

Mail Fraud
U.S. Postal Inspectors investigate any crime in which the U.S. Mail is used to further a scheme--whether it originated in the mail, by telephone, or on the Internet. The use of the U.S. Mail is what makes it mail fraud.

If evidence of a postal violation exists, Postal Inspectors may seek prosecutive or administrative action against the violator. However, if money is lost through a fraudulent scheme conducted via the mail, Postal Inspectors lack the authority to ensure you receive a refund and can't require that products, services, or advertisements--on the Internet or elsewhere--be altered.

Postal Inspectors base investigations of mail fraud on the number, pattern, and substance of complaints received from the public. The Postal Inspection Service will carefully review the information you provide. We may share the information with other agencies when there is a possible violation within their jurisdiction.

If you feel you've been victimized in a fraud scheme that involves the U.S. Mail, submit a Mail Fraud Complaint Form to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

46. Wake Up the real threat is stolen votes at the ballot box.
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 10:33 AM by usaf-vet
All of these dirty tricks to suppress voters is supplemental to the real game. The real game is to steal each and every election at the ballot box. That is to flip votes within the machines. Three votes here 50 votes there all within the margin of error. For years now the repugs have been doing everything to discount exit polls. Exits polls that use to "align" with actual vote counts. The MSM used exit polls as part of there calculations to call the winner.

Until the democrats understand and get serious about the probability that elections are being stolen at the ballot box. We will never be able to trust our elections.

Remember "It is not who votes that counts.... it's who counts the votes" that determine the elections. WHO COUNTS THE VOTES !!!
